I'm a member of a Audi Club North America, and last year we started an official Quattro De Mayo event down at The Dragon. Well, we're planning round two and looking for other locations due to the Tennessee Highway Patrol's rediculous take-over. The first thing that came to my mind was the great time I had at MB4 in Suches. The Wolf obviously doens't have the reputation of the dragon (which is a good thing), but I guess my question is, will a fairly large (100-200 Cars) car club be welcome here? Do many car clubs play in the area like the Dragon? How's the traffic during peak season? I know MB is very early in the season, and we'll be there early May. We are a responsible group. Similar to the Buell group. We have a drivers meeting, everyone will understand the rules of the road, and understand that everyone there is there to have fun. No need to race/hold people back/pass illegaly/cross the line/etc. I realize our rest area will have to be the gas station, not TWO like badness. Where would be the closest/best place to make a main headquarters hotel. Delonega? (Message edited by Mikef5000 on October 26, 2007) (Message edited by Mikef5000 on October 26, 2007) |

That's a LOT of cars. Welcome? Everyone is welcome up that way. Everyone gets a good first chance, those not welcome have been there before, and did something stupid. The largest car club I've seen up that way was maybe 25 strong. They held things up (by motorcyclist standards) but they were VERY well behaved, and no one had a sour word to say towards them. They ran Wolf Pen on the way to 129. It was slow going as you can imagine, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Once on 129 they were much more able to stretch their legs a bit more. Traffic during peak season can be a bit tight, tightest would be in the Fall during peak leaf season (now). May is a good time to go ride. It's one of my favorite times to ride, the weather usually cooperates that time of year, but can be rainy, especially in the evening. Dahlonega would be your best bet for HQ. Lots of area hotels, gas stations, and (hopefully not needed) garages. Mountainrider is a local, he lives just off 60 above TWO. Shoot him a PM for better information. He's a really great guy, and I'm sure he could help you out. He has a Mini Cooper he drives up there, so I'm pretty sure he could help you out with some good routes as well. He knows all the good roads up there. He's got one video of him driving the Mini, his wife Betty is in the passenger side holding the camcorder, it's a great video! Ask him and I'll bet he'll give you a link to it. Let me know if that's where y'all go, I'd love to come up and say hi. I don't have a fun car to drive, as I'm much more two wheeled oriented, but would love to meet up for lunch or something. |
