This was the only info about the accident I was able to find: Three hospitalized after motorcycles crash in Tuxedo By John Sullivan October 22, 2007 Tuxedo — A man and a woman were taken by helicopter out of Harriman State Park yesterday after a crash involving several motorcycles left the two and another man with serious injuries. Police and emergency workers responded at 2:40 p.m. to the scene just west of Kanawauke Circle on Route 106. Emergency crews shut down access to Route 106 for several hours. The seriously injured man and woman were flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, while the second man was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, according to Tuxedo fire officials. State park police did not return numerous calls for information about the crash yesterday. No further information was available. |

Hi Cochise- No- It appears some of the New England guys may know him- Looks like he's from NH. He was involved in an accident that occurred in the area, but it was not on, or part of, the run. There were folks from the general public who randomly found the run gathering at the summit and tagged along for a bit, and others who started on our run and later explored the park on their own. He's at a great hospital and I'm sure we all wish him a speedy recovery. There was an absolutely wonderful group of riders for this run, from as far away as NH, NJ, Mass. Conn., Delaware, North Carolina, West Virgina and Penn., and tremendous hospitality was shown by local Buellers, and gracious camaraderie was the order of the day for among participants... a truly great bunch of people. He was behind me on that side road that Doon found. We got separated from the pack due to Dereck getting a ticket earlier in the day. That poor bastard. We were trying to cut across directly to the food place. I looked in my mirror and saw nothing. I slowed down and no one caught up. I stopped at the rotary and nothing. It was just a terrible situation all around. We weren't even going that fast! (still breaking the speed limit by a bit though) |

mike- What I do know is, as I stated, the accident did NOT occur on, or as part of, the run. When I met with the run participants at Mt. Pater at 2PM, not one had seen or heard of any problem. The individual in question had this mishap while we were all on break at Mt. Peter. The involved riders had to have been off riding far away from the run when this occurred. |

There were a few folks that got separated from the pack and Derek happened to be one of them. He along with a few of the NEBO crew. So yes Cochise, Derek WAS a part of the HH3 run. Might not have been on a Buell but is a member of the NH crew so that DEFINITELY makes him one of us. |

The accident occurred outside the run. If a rider was riding on their own outside of the two designated groups which comprised the run, led by the two group leaders, as instructed by the MSF safety instructor who delivered our safety speech, the individual was, at that time, no longer on the run. |

.As Nate states a few posts up, the individual and a few others were separated from the run due to a traffic stop, in which he was allegedly issued a summons. nate himself states: "he was behind me on that side road that Doon found " (italics mine) which further puts him outside the run. It would appear that a few individuals were stopped for speeding, and took a "side road". At this point, they were no longer on the run. |
