It should be in your tool kit, if not hit up Smokescreen http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/96299.html?1180896550 You can get a new tool kit with the nut for $30 bones. |

If you can't find a Buell 7/8" tool, get a 22mm one to fit most Jap bikes. That will work fine. |

If you have a 13/16" spark plug socket w/a hex head, the hex part should be 7/8". Put the hex part in the axle, then put an extension in from the spark plug side. May not be very handy for an on-board tool kit, but.... |

New12R, I stand corrected. When I looked in the kit when I bought the bike you would have thought I would have questioned that double bolt with c-clip looking thing. Guess I forgot in my excitement to RIDE ! That tool site is cool, but I prefer to use something I can torque to the right spec...I'm anal about that ! Now that I don't need an expensive tool I got more money to ride ! Thanks again, all. (Message edited by rkutzner on October 18, 2007) |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/313608.html?1192632225 Take a look at this thread there is an ingenious answer to your question. He states 5/8" but I think he means 7/8" (Message edited by surveyor on October 18, 2007) |

You may want to consider a breaker bar as I broke my ratchet. It can take quite a bit of force to get that axle loosened (especially when you forget to take the pinch bolt out). BTW, ratchet broke AFTER I discovered that the pinch bolt was still in and removed it. |

My bike didn't come with the tool (long story), so I borrowed Shred's. I broke it trying to take the rear axle out (another long story). He had it welded back together, and it's been good ever since. I now have the Buell one, thanks to the 3%ers. |

The welded one has come in handy more than once in the barn. |

I have no doubt it will take a breaker bar to take it off, but I have 3 torque wrenches ranging from inch pounds to 250 foot pounds. I'm sure one of them can torque it on to spec if that is needed. Or is it the pinch bolt that gets torqued to spec. Does the axle bolt just go it until it bottoms and then the pinch bolt holds it on? Haven't read that part of the shop manual yet because I'm not near needing new tires yet ! |

My rear axle took me 3 hours before I could convince it to come loose! Patience and the proper tools/ techniques usually will overcome those stubborn problems. later Neil S. |
