I think Christine got mad at me because I rode another motorcycle......

Ok, Now let's be rational about this. No jumping to conclusions.
I sure that there is a reasonable explanation.

Background:

I went for a little ride right after work today and the bike was
running fine, -except-, when you got on the throttle. There was an almost
imperceptible hesitation before it would "hook up". It was very subtle.
I thought it must be some bad gas or something. After I returned home
I was greeted with this image.
puke

Now I know what everyone is thinking: Engine oil in the transmission.
The engine oil level didn't seem low compared to what came out. BUT,
to any one who uses REDLINE Heavy (the stuff stinks). When I emptied
the over flowing catch can it did have a different smell to it. Not good
I know. Would a small amount of 10/40 cause the clutch to slip?

What is entailed in replacing that gasket separating the two oils? Is
there a way to test it? Leak down or something. I'm assuming this will
be a case splitting affair? How much? Anyone?

Maybe it's just time to change the transmission oil. It's been 4000 miles.
YEAH! Condensation build up. This has happened before and the change
fixed it. The bike only has 14,500 miles. What am I worried about?????????????

Signed,
Manic Depressed in Maryland.

Henrik is preparing to tell us about his crankshaft seal replacement efforts. Read about it soon in the KV's "Drivetrain - Primary Drive" topic. Splitting the cases is not necessary. Just removal of primary cover, and primary chain. :)

Didn't Grizzly or Hans or someone do that last year in a Belgium(sp?) hotel parking lot with their bike leaning up against a lightpole? Or was that some other streetside repair?

As far as I know, I wasn`t there, it went not that far. I rode them out till halfway to Croix, but only the paper gasket of the cover was leaking on Grizzly`s X1. A new seal was picked up in Zeeland and only that was replaced. Easy the peasy, with helping hands of Pete and Aaron, I think.

Hans,

Yep, the paper gasket of the cover was leaking.

DANA,

I had the same problem with the crankshaft seal.
It became noticable first with higher revs, after that more and more while riding normal (did I realy say that?).
I also used REDLINE Heavy and had exactly the same oilspill.
I didn't have the plastic rearwheel cover on the bike so the oil was all over the rear tire too.
Slip'n slide'n all the way.
The engine oil level wasn't low. It seems to be much oil spill but actualy isn't.
It started at around 3000 mls and was fixed.
After about 8000 mls it started again in the high revs, so I think the seal started leaking again. But I sold the bike before I had to change it again.

And Dana, change the oil. You realy dont want 10W/40 in there.
IMHO

Grizzlyb,

I was running 10/40 for the winter and summer just started yesterday (we’re setting records here in Maryland).

I’m thinking that’s what my problem was! Viscosity Blowbyus.

As soon as I put that thick 20/50 back in, everything is going to be juuuuuuuussssst fine.

I’m not in denial, I am NOT in denial.

You know, a two quart catch can would be effective also.

Job,

Nice Ride!!! Check the primary chain tension. If it's loose it may be the clutch/shift problem. The stock shifter is not the best either, but can be made better with some bushings. I have a Banke shifter from ASB (click on banner at top of page) and it works great. Keep your wheel in the air longer and it won't get scratched .

Ok!! will try to keep my front wheel in the air longer,....my last experience wheelies were on a Honda XR 600....mean wheely machine, parc it a copple of times in the neighbource fence!

Thanx for the tip on the clutch! further on there were no special problems except that the fireball
alarm systeem doesn't like rain...parc my bike, couldn't start it anymore. luckely I was home....my wifes hairdryer did the job...

and also, after two weeks driving from and back to work in the rain, my tago's are wet, condense behind the glass and that sucks....

Sybren, Ik heb je onlangs je website bekeken..en zag dat je net als ik in de internetbizz zit, grappig want ik ken nu al zeker 4 buellpiloten die ook met het web hun poen verdienen.

Later!

Skulley's Fastner photo has been moved to the Knowledge Vault/Fastener topic. There does indeed seem to be more than one way to skin this cat (Blake - photo uploading to Fasteners topic locked up my system).

Hello fellow Buellers! Here's a pic of my lightly modified M2. Not much in the way of go-faster goodies as I can already dust my riding buddies. Maybe after I eat a bit of humble pie...hehe. Mods are limited to: V&H, K&N, jetting. It runs like a train. Newest tires are Metzler, and I love 'em. MUCH better than stock. I seem to have developed a charging system problem (new battery, no charging when running). Any thoughts?

Here's a couple of pics of my M2.
Sorry about the road dirt, but I haven't had time to do a good spring cleaning yet. I took these yesterday before it snowed...

Nothing too special, but it is my Blue Beast.

Mike,
It's powder coating. Classic coatings in WI did it for me.
It's actually 3 coats. Silver base with 2 candy blue over coats to get the right shade. There was not a "solid" available that was close enough to the stock Blue Streak so the candy was the only option.
It was kind of one of those "in for a dime, in for a dollar" things. I started out just cutting down the cam cover, didn't like the raw edges so decided to powder coat it. Then thought about doing it blue to match the paint. I had a couple of folks do a photoshop tweek for me to get a feel how it would look. It looked cool so I figured I would go for it. I send the parts off to Classic Coatings along with my fly screen (for color matching). It esculated from there. Had to blast off the old coating, base coat then the two tint colors. Ouch!
It cost WAY too much but I like the look.

Thanks for the compliment!

Brad

Beautiful bikes, all 3 of'em Daniel.

If it's any consolation, I actually only have 3 Buells that are "riders". The others are collectors and/or race bikes. Not that they don't get ridden, just not all that much. I'll probably thin the herd a little, too. Just have a few goals to achieve first.

3 that are riders?

Let me guess...

1. M2
2. S1
3. S2

So your S3 is not streetable?
