What with folks adding auxiliary lights I wonder how much electric load can the Uly handle without shortening the life of the alternator components and regulator?

Anyone have much experience running loads similar to: low beam & high beam both on, 100 watts auxiliary lights plus two 40 watt electric vests? Too much?

On my uly I had a pair of PIAA 510 lights, Buell Quest GPS, electric cooler, buell heated grips, harley heated jacket, and it handled all of it fine. You will notice the fan gets a little quieter as the bike won't be able to handle it all at idle as good, but I've never had an issue running all the above at the same time.

I run the Gerbing electric jacket and G3 gloves which pull 99 amps....when I get home from a ride I can tell it takes longer to bring the battery all the way back up...but everything works fine...

The alternator has a 405 watt rating. You add all the wattages up and hopefully you come in under 405 watts. If you figure about 200 watts (which is probably a little high?) for the stock lighting, ignition, and fan that gives you about another 200 watts to play with.

Older Ulys (pre 08) had a ~493 watt alternator so you could probably run a bit more electric goodies.

"Older Ulys (pre 08) had a ~493 watt alternator so you could probably run a bit more electric goodies."

Was the change made on '08 due to reliability issues with the 3-phase 493W 38A units? (The '08s are single-phase 405W 30A)

No, it was due to the switch to the XBRR style engine. Bottom end is quite a bit different in design.
