The premise of course is that I actually know how to use this stuff. Sportymark has taught me a lot, hopefully I won't have to demonstrate though. I bought the Allen wrenches yesterday. Metric & SAE for $0.94. I couldn't pass that up.
I put the red airbox cover on the Uly and thought "I'm the only one in the world with a Red Uly. Then I went to homecoming and saw 2 others. I'm sure I'm the only Red Uly with a C3 sticker on it. If you see me, honk. Wish I had an ADV sticker too, but I don't know where to get those.
The left back is packed with stuff from Flynuly. That gear is gonna make a lot of difference in how I feel on Wensday and Thursday. Thanks. BTW, you should see Flyn's bikes. He has a spotless Electraglide in his garage. It looks absolutely perfect. It's got 65,000 miles on it. The wiring job he did on his Uly is beautiful too. Off to Kmart to fill prescriptions. Can't run out of medicine. |

Jim I've been kind of hectic lately and just realized your exciting adventure is NOW!!!We didn't get a chance to do more than speak and shake hands at Suches, but at least I got to meet one more BadWeB figment. Looking at your map and you mentioning Fat_b, I guess you're going through Nashville. On the way back though(I guess you're coming back, don't think I saw any thing about the return), if you take a different route, and come through Chattanooga, please holler. I can feed you, put you up, or whatever you need. I'm baching, so it's kind of like camping indoors, the cooking stinks and so does the house sometimes but we can open the windows and go out to eat. I even have low carb bread!!! I'm envious and so glad you're getting to make this ride. Ya'll come see us!! Rotzaruck!!! |

apropos of nothing, it struck me after meeting the "other" FB at Buelltoberfast that i'm WAY fatter and MUCH more of a bastard than he is, PLUS i haven't owned a Buell in several years. maybe a screen name switch is in order? hey Jim, you SUCK! i think i forgot to tell you that in Suches when you told us about your upcoming trip, but if i DID, then consider this a friendly reminder! have fun, be safe, and keep us all posted as best you can. That belt position was asking for trouble anyway... I would put it back in it's original box, seal it up, and put it with a trusted friend that could get it to a fed-ex store on short notice. |

I-80 thru Wyoming has that nasty little hump of a mountain between Cheyenne and Laramie, then the gradual elevation gain westward from there. October is a transitional time to ride in the mountains. Could be clear and dry, could need snow chains. Ride safe. |

I met up with Jim this morning. We had a coffee/coke and just chatted for a bit before I saw him off and on the road again. Poor guy's rain gear did not perform as advertised and he got soaked yesterday. It was chilly riding out to meet him and before he hit the road he got all of his heated gear situated to keep him warm, but it seemed to me that in the few minutes we talked it warmed up several degrees so it may be roasting him as I type this. Anyway, as I have become used to finding, Jim is a really good guy, and I wish him well on his journey! |

Jim is a really good guy Yes he is! Carlos and I enjoy spending time with Jim and "the girl". Glad to hear "something" from him. Guess his next purchase is better rain gear. |

Just talked to The Boy. He's warm and dry and sounds great. Says Kansas is much more beautiful than he expected. Not sure he'll make it all the way to Limon, CO tonight, but his goal is to at least cross the state line. He's aware of the snow reports and has gotten some good re-routing advice from the locals. XXL is usually best because of his height. Thanks, everyone, for watching out for and taking care of him. He IS a good guy! |

SOrry if I implied that Jim was still wet, he got wet yesterday on the Illinois side of the border. He had dried out over-night I just hope that he gets something to hold the water out if he's going to use the electrics in wet weather or things could get...interesting! I'm glad he likes his route through Kansas, because there sure is a lot of it! I'm sure that the mountains are calling to him though, even if it the pavement will be a little cold and potentially slick |

Sunday afternoon, I left Raleigh for Asheville. Other than bad traffic on I-40 (why is there a traffic jam on Sunday afternoon) it was an uneventful trip.
Monday I had Lunch with Fat Bastard. He doesn't look like you expected him to does he? We had a good time, he took me to a nice BBQ joint and it was nice to talk for a while.
I took off for St. Louis after that. The further north I got, the cloudier the sky got. I filled up about 100 miles outside St Louis, and it looked like it was going to storm. It started raining about 15 miles after that. It was one of those rains where the water is running down the inside of your face shield. I have rain gear packed, but it was packed and I was riding and thought that what I had on would be good enough. I didn't feel like I was getting that wet on the bike, but when I got to St Louis, and started taking off my gear, I was soaked. The next morning I let St Louis and headed out I-70. About 100 miles up the road I met Diablobrian at a gas station and we talked for a while. He is a neat guy. He has a firebolt Hals modified to show off their customization ability. it's an XB9R with a 1250cc engine. The first XB12 perhaps.
After I left Brian I rode for a while and got into Kansas. The first exit was number 420 and that was horribly depressing. If I'd had the choice at that moment, I'd have gone back home. But of course I was 1000 miles from home, so that wasn't an option. So I pushed on. And on and on and on. Kansas is a long state. There was a quote which I kept repeating to myself:

Kansas isn't as flat as people say it is. It has small rolling hills.
I got around exit 255 with the fuel light on, and was passing some windmill construction. I pulled off to get gas and decided to get off the bike for a while. I bought a cup of tea and a tube of peanuts, and started calling people. I called The Girl to check in, I called Court to see if his family's company was building the Windmills. I called Ulywife to see if she could find me a new retaining wire for my clutch cable. I walked around for a while and looked at the view. It was clear and cool and beautiful, with the green fields and rolling hills. When I got back on the bike, I had a completely different attitude about things. Life was good. I set goals. Get below mile marker 200. Then get to mail marker 100. I pulled off for fuel around mm 70. I got some gas and some more peanuts. When I came back out there was an older couple getting out of a car next to me. She asked me if I'd bought the bike from a Harley dealer. I told her yes and I was impressed that she knew that. She said her son worked for a Harley dealership. She had head of Buells before but had never actually seen one. I'm always thrilled to show off the bike. By this time, 70 miles seems like a run to the store. I was in Colorado in no time. I was so excited to have made it that far. I was laughing under my helmet. It was still daylight, but the sun was going down. I was in Mountain time now so I had picked up a virtual hour. I was doing mileages in my head, and it was only 90 miles to Lemon, where I had planned to stop. But Denver was only another 80 miles beyond that and I was feeling good. I bought gas in Lemon, and got back on I-70 and headed up into Denver. The heated gear was wonderful. It got colder as the sun went down, but I just cranked up the knob. I made it to Denver right around 8:00 pm, which I thought was pretty good for an 800 mile day. I did look a bit rough. I got some dinner and went to bed.
