I have been off of here a while and maybe this question has already been answered. I would like to know what is the time line for all Buell/Harley Dealerships to have 100% service personnel trained. To meet the forcasted demand of new type of service required by this bike. Specificaly for the new engine? Thanks |

Court, Sgolackson is correct. At least as far as mechanics training is concerned. |

they are right. I guess my salesperson was misinformed. I just spoke to Mike Keeber at WC Mcguire and he said Buell has not said anything yet about Tech classes for the 1125. |

Hmmm.... with 1125 slated to start showing up in dealers next month, it seems like HD is cutting the training pretty close. |

I am not seeing it at all in here atleast. I would of really liked to see it already of been adressed at this point in the game.} |

I can't speak for HD or anybody else but when I train for medical equipment I try to train immediately before they will see the equipment. Tech's forget half of what they learn if they get taught too soon and then don't get a chance to use their skills for weeks or months. I like to train and then have them use their skills within 2 weeks ideally. Of course, YMMV. |

>>>>Cutting it close? I think that is a little understatement. No it's not. Read the thread about Job #1. Buell, and it was fully planned and pulled off per plan, put about 100 1125r in some of the most discerning hands on the planet . . . journalists, racers, current Buell owners and owners of other brands. Buell asked for and got LOTS (this was not a shy bunch)of feedback. Now think for a moment if the week after you returned from training you got this flash bulletin from Buell . . "hold everything, we've made some changes". Buell would never hear the end of it. Part of "Continuous Improvement" sometimes actually requires . . . well "improving". I suspect that in less than half a fortnight you'll see all the 1125r classes announced. I'd guess you'll find that a group has been developing an innovative plan to quickly and efficiently deal with early issues as the new engines meets the world of Buell owners. I like the fact that all the folks on the 1125r team are avid and passionate riders who themownselves have bought motorcycles. My question to them is "is this the best you can do?" I want the answer to be "YES" and, to that end, Buell has done some REALLY innovative things to allow ANYONE on the team to say "No, not until I am satisfied". It's just me, but Buell is handling this in a way the business part of me has always dreamed they'd be able to someday. The whole Laguna Seca media process and the Inside Pass days (thank you to the folks who provided the donor bikes to compose the "tip over and crash parts" list) have provided much material that will be in the upcoming tech classes. Just my personal, as a construction worker, thoughts. (Message edited by court on October 15, 2007) |

I had a pointed question looking for a pointed answer. I know about CPI Everyday I deal with TOC,LEAN, and 6 Sigma. I would "guess" as well on many things, especially that they had an roll out plan on anticipated service training. I was hoping to get a pointed answer that they did. "I would like to know what is the time line for all Buell/Harley Dealerships to have 100% service personnel trained. " I wouldn't think there would be a pointed answer to that. The question had a point for sure but I think the answer is that it depends on the dealership. Some will be immediate and some won't. The dealerships aren't owned by the manufacturer and the manufacturer can't call all of the shots. |

But... one would think that BMC had some training lined up for these Harley/Buell dealerships to attend. This available training would hopefully marry up with some sort of anticipated demand/service work. That all I wanted to know. From the sound of it there isnt. Im a little disapointed ONLY in that aspect of the 1125. Heck I want one but I have a very very ugly picture of a Harley Mech trying to figure out a Buell let alone this new powerplant... |

Don't be disappointed; this new motor will have a learning curve for everybody - sales, service AND owners. Get a shop manual and learn with the local wrench, or do it yourself. At this point WE know as much as the dealership mechanics. Z |

At Mid Ohio one of the Service Managers asked about the same question. He was told that it would be a lot like when the V-Rod motor first came out. If something happens, pull the motor, crate it, ship it back to BMC. |

>>>If something happens, pull the motor, crate it, ship it back to BMC. Actually, in that regard, he is right. The 1125r will have in place the full zoot "Infant Care" program to insure that no Buell owner waits for anything while techs try to sort details out. This is just about one notch short of when Ford would come to the house of GT-40 buyers and perform recall work in the garage. There has been an entire team hard at work on nothing but service and delivery. |

Yes, Wolfridgerider is correct. All initial issues are R&R of engine for a fresh one. This worked great for V-Rod and will work here. That is the process we are using initially to make sure we capture the real facts ASAP should anything go worong. There's plenty of time to train the mechanics before the first maintenance service is due. |

Valve adjustment at 12,000 miles. I think. Of course the oil needs changed, which could be an issue.... |

Valve adjustment at 12,000 miles. I think. Of course the oil needs changed, which could be an issue.... Any ideas how complicated it will be to adjust valves? I read something in one of the mags about having to "pull the engine forward". Not sure what that means (I'm no mechanic) but the stories I've heard about the VROD and BMW-K bikes make me thankful for my Dyna's hydraulic lifters.) Oh, apologies for the temporary thread hijack. |

Valves are actuated with finger followers and adjusted with shims. This design reduces weight and friction to permit a quicker valve opening. The unique follower retainment system makes shim replacement quick and easy. That statement is right from the "Exclusive on-track product training for Buell dealers" hand book. How easy will it be? |

How easy will it be? Exactly. Or to ask another way, how easy will 1125 valve adjustments be compared to the shim-under-bucket adjustments of the typical inline-4 engines? |

Much easier and for half the number of valves. |

Blame for most bad service experiences are placed on the dealer. This illuminates service support from the manufacture as a weak link. You would think dealer service was a bit more important on the Buell planning priority list. |
