Hay... Would anyone have the shock adjustment procedure for the latest K1400.8 rear shock? I would like to print it and put it in my manual for future reference as well as to know how to adjust it now.. My latest service book..2000 S3T, still shows the first design showa and even says its bin recalled, but doesnt give instructions for the new one...Go Figure... I checked the kit, there are no instructions listed as part of the kit. Let me go in back and grab an '02 owners manual for something Buell and see what it says. | ||

You really only have to adjust it to your weight. The big nut to the rear of the shock is the adjusment. There is an involved procedure , but a quick set up is all the way back (towards rear) is for roughly a 200# rider. The factory preset is for about 160#. If u r 180, split the diff. Once you set that you can firm it up w/ the adjustment screws. If you do firm up the rear, I suggest adjusting the front similarly. Don't expect too much as the shock is average at best. For a real improvement look into the Penske. | ||

Onahog, Loki is correct with the link. I just replaced my leaking "first gen" Showa on the S2 with the shortie. Get someone to hold you up, and get someone to measure center-to-center on the shock and make sure it's in spec - i set mine right at 15 1/4. And don't forget to bounce the bike a few times before you measure. I've found that a "claw" type oil filter wrench works great for turning the shock. just hook it on the holes towards the back of the shock. Also, whenever you adjust preload you need to reset both compression and rebound. | ||

Thx Guys... Heres the actual skinny! I bought a 2000 S3T for my wife ta ride... Shes 100 lbs soaked! I bought a front shock mount on ebay...Havent got yet! But, I was gonna lengthin it about a bolt hole, as well as drop the fork tubes thru the trees a touch to lower the whole bike. Same amount front and rear... Anyhow, With her weight, Mine is 150lbs, I would like to find the best setting as a compromise for each of Us...As well as have the correct dampenin, compression and rebound... Soooooo.....What ya "all figure about this? Id still like a copy of the original setup specs for this shock...Anyone? Did you find anything in a manual Ratbuell? I also just got a 97-98 style seat, which helped alot with the height issue as her legs fit tighter to the body now... The early seat fit like a glove on the newer bike, and even the lock pin lined right into place....Go Figure eh! Anyhow...open to ur views dUdes!!!! Thx...Hankb.....  | ||

Y'know, I saw the link on the thread and totally forgot to check. I have our monthly Staph Beating tomorrow morning...on my day off...I'll dig thru the manuals afterwards before heading home. Depending on her agressiveness and sensitivity to bumps, I'd suggest setting the preload for you. Then use the comp/reb adjustments to make it tolerable for her when she drives. Easier to turn a couple clicks on a screwdriver than to constantly adjust the preload.... Wish *my* wife would ride...anyone need a 2002 1200C with 3260 miles? We bought it for her 2 years ago with 2995 miles on it....grr. | ||

Go to th K(nowledge)V(ault) and the sub header of: Owners & Svc Manuals.....Then the next sub header of: Service/Tech Bulletins. This is the storage area of all things one should be aware of in a pdf format. I have actually printed out all the bulletins and have them in a binder. I even have some of the superceded versions. | ||
