I had my first track day this weekend at Talladega Grand Prix in Talladega, AL. I was in the novice group but rode much better and faster than the others in my group. I was on my knee from the first session. Everyone was impressed with the Buell and it definitely drew a lot of stares of awe and amazement...lol. And with the Force race header it was the loudest thing on the track. Peace.

Nope! But I got damn good at it. Not to brag, but I started looking like a pro. :-) I've been getting off the bike for a while on mountain riding trips, I learned quickly from the more experienced riders I ride with. |

"Not to brag, but I started looking like a pro." It's not bragging if it's the honest truth. That is an awsome pic! |

The only thing that doesn't look excellent in the picture is the location of your knee puck. It appears to be to high on the leg and to the outside. But that is coming from someone who's never been close to dragging a knee. Soo jealous. |

The clipons are woodcraft. The position is extreme for short riders, but I am 6'5" so the position is the same for me as normal sport bikes are for normal sport bike riders. The rearsets are homemade by yours truly. See here.... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/303095.html Oh and that isn't my best pic...my kickstand was dragging when i was really leaning hard. In this pic its 1" off the ground or so. I think this pic was early in the corner. Mike, Good eye. Not sure about the puck location but I do know that I was wearing my right knee with a perfect pattern but the left was skewed. I think maybe the pants twist once my legs are bent. I'll check it out before next track day. Thanks for the kind words. I was very proud to own a Buell that day. |

Great job!! You look like you're really flying in that picture! I scraped quite a bit of material off my kickstand (and a little off the footpegs) at my first track school. I just took an Exacto knife to the rubber bumper so the kickstand folds up higher. Looks like your rearsets give you good clearance, so no issue there. Since I've been inactive for a few years, I'm going to wait a little while before I get back on the track. It won't be too long though! TUBER PRIDE!! |

I know the picture looks good and all but hells yeah tally was fun. When I heard you crank up I though it was a race car a few tents down that thing sounds like a big block camming about to cut off and is loud like my little buell. We timed you with a wrist watch wich we found to be real accurate and you did a 1:12 pretty steady. If I ever go back to tally I'll take the blast on the track just to see if I can kill in the corners like the motards, it was awesome seeing a 1200cc Vtwin kick 1000cc4cylinders and look good doing it. Well man it was a great weekend and glad to see you out there you did awesome for your first time knee dragging now your addicted. |

Thanks man, What was your name again? I'm Brad. Nice to meet you and glad to hear you timed me to a 1:12. You must have caught me when I didn't get caught by traffic. Thanks, Brad |

Good job, man! I did a track school on my S1. Using Buell Race rearsets I scraped my boots, shifter, and pegs, but was trying not to hang off "excessively" as they taught. I never touched my knee down . Seems there's a lot of Buell guys that get to draggin' the knee pretty quickly. |

That sure looks like fun. I'd think about temporarily removing the kickstand... |

I'm JEALOUS!!!! No matter how hard I've tried so far (caution tempered by the realization I have a wife & 2 little girls at home that LOVE ME)I haven't yet been able to touch a knee, but have run the rear tire out to the edge, almost (1/4"). BTW, u look GOOD in that pic! As for removing the kickstand for a trackday, I've thought 'bout it, but think it's more hassle than it's worth. Maybe I'll change my mind after next month in Cresson unless someone has some good ideas, taking into account the following: 1) Has to be EASY. My X1 is also my daily ride, not just a trackday bike. Therefore, it has to come off & go back on in minutes, not hours. 2) How to manage by myself in the paddock w/ no stands. Subject to change based on how good Santa is 2 me this year. |

I just took an Exacto knife to the rubber bumper so the kickstand folds up higher. That looks like an easy way to get another inch of clearance. Looks like there's pleny of room for you kickstand to go up a bit higher. |

P squared, Years ago I just took a long bolt and zipp tied it with loops to the kickstand and left it in a reachable place in the paddock. When I came in I just grabbed it and stuck the bolt in. Then put the spring and stock bolt back in for daily use. Wicked X1, take a 1/4" piece of rubber to put under the bracket and save the tank cover and chin at home in case of a "uh hem" problem. This also allows you to get 1/2" lower. You're looking good! Oh, and your rearsets look great! My homeade set is not nearly as professional. Best of luck from an ol' "Economy racer". |

Very Nice! You have to lose the wrap around shifter. |

Bradley Nice job. Cut down the bumper on that kickstand and it will tuck up higher. Joe |

Cut some rubber off the bumper....or... Use an easily retained bolt for the kickstand in the paddock. Thanks guys, great ideas and one of the reasons I love this place. |

I had my first track day yesterday! No riding pictures yet... but I had an awesome time. I didn't think the cyclone would do near as well as it did. Once I got a feel for leaning it over (second to last session) I was dragging a knee through every corner with complete confidence. Can't wait for the pictures. |

Sportsman, my fuel tank cover has already been scratched and repainted on the right side, so I was not real worried about it. I wanted it to look as good as it sounded. And I had a ways before I hit the chin. Thansk for the compliments on the rearsets. I worked hard on them so its nice to hear. Thanks for the tips on the kickstand, I will definitely try it. |

The wrap around shifter has to go. It's a whole lot easier to run thru the gears w/ a decent shifter. I couldn't stand mine just cruising around, couldn't fathom having it at a track. I w/ also get the adjustable clutch and front brake levers. Merely a suggestion, but should help with lap times. |

Where do you get an adjustable clutch lever? Also, I have a Banke shifter now but I really don't think the stock shifter is that bad. I never had a problem with mine during the track schools I went to. |

My shifter did great on the track. Only time I notice a problem with mine is 1-2 shift and I think that's mainly cause I get lazy. And I didn't use 1st on the track. Plus with my rearsets, my shifter is slightly skewed but actually worked better than the stock shape, less slack. |
