-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
I recently bought an '08 Lightning long, about 2 months ago. I just purchased a Buell race muffler on line p/n 65218-03y, I noticed that it doesn't fit quite right on this model. The right outlet hits the belt idler pulley. I made a shim to fit between the mount and the muffler and it fits fine now. My question is, is there a difference between p/n 65218-03y and p/n 65163-02yb and if there is what's the difference. I also just purchased a race ecm and the high flow air filter from the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, come to find out there is no race ecm offered from buell for an '08. So anyone out there know what the hot set up is for this?

There is a difference. The early race mufflers designed for the 03 XB9's were changed when the 04+ belt drive system was designed. The 04+ idler is in a slightly different position than on an 03. All the race mufflers built after the change are the same physically, some are polished, some are matte, but they all have the same tip position. Sounds like you have the 03 pipe.

We're still in the dark on the 08 ECM. I will be picking up my 08 Uly in the next week and will be starting the investigations to find out what we can do with it.
