Below are two pictures of both my front and rear tire on my 2005 xb9sx. The tires are Michelin Pilot Road with approx 3800 miles on them. I have recently noticed a line running along the entire tire on both the front and rear. There is no cut in the tires at all. I asked someone at a local shop and they said it "should" be ok. I wanted to get some opinions if possible.

Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this? Is it a defect in the tires? Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Brian

Forward the pics to Michelin and ask for an opinion

Are these dual compound tires? If so it's probably the joint of the compounds.

My last two sets of Pilot Powers looked exactly the same. I think it's a Michelin thing.

I think Wackyracer is correct. It looks like dual compound tires to me.

I'm with 65460. It seems to me the front reflects the seams I would expect with multi compounds, where is the other seam for the opposite side's joint? However the rear is maybe a poor joint for normal tread layer application. Let's here what the factory has to say.

I would like to thank those people who took the time to reply to my post.

I sent the information over to Michelin to see what they had to say. They called me and told me that the line is perfectly normal. The technician stated that it is a "center strip" and it's purpose is to discharge static electricity. It is manufactured in their tires solely for that purpose. I am glad it is finally cleared up.

Good thing that is cleared up. Don't want that Flux Capacitor to overcharge!
