Insider story...the hole in the frame of the original XB's was actually for a turbocharger duct. There was a turbo model in the XB product plan, and there were a number of prototypes tested, several for long durability mileage in 2003/2004. The turbo mounted low in the front of the bike with an intercooler inside the airbox on top of the throttle body. Killed by budget and concerns that it wouldn't sell because of being too different. It was a bada** motorcycle with over 150 RWHP and over 125 ft-lbf torque. |

for some reason it seems fishy that the test bikes were not seen by anyone at all and not one picture has surfaced ? I might just be paranoied and delusional. |

Anony, any chance some of those parts are laying around collecting dust somewhere? I'd be happy to take care of a turbo system and intercooler for the good of all Buell kind. I'd guarantee in writing that the parts would never be sold, absolve Buell of all liability, and in the (extremely unlikely) event I was to sell the bike the parts would be returned to Buell, or the Buell museum that I'm hearing rumblings about. I volunteer myself to be the sacrificial lamb for the good of all Buell riders everywhere, that's just the kind of guy I am! |

Sub, H-D and Buell are about the best corporations at keeping the lid on things... (Kinda like the 1125R!!) I bet it would have been real easy to slip a turbo under some type of full fairing Buell and ride it right past the unknowing... |

goo point paint-shaker there were no pictures of the 1125r until the release date. But a scrapped project would not be such a secret anymore would it?and i will second what diablo said if there is a second kit gathering dust i too will be a sacraficial lamb and not hold buell responsible. let me know where to sign! |

Scrapped projects are usually crushed and dumpstered, unfortunately. Nothing more horrible to watch. It will soon happen to the dirt bike program stuff. |

Anon., How much boost did the test mules run with? Any insight(that can be shared) as to what internal upgrades, if any, the turbo bikes had(ie. pistons, crank, oil sys.etc)that did not make it to production, or was this all done with the same internal hardware that is used now? I'm planning a turbo install on my 06 12R at the end of next year, so any info that can be shared is appreciated. |
