And it only took them 22 YEARS to do it! I admit, I really like it. Much better than the previous design... very sporty for a 250. http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/detail.aspx?id=26 3 ~SM |

I saw that the other day - it looks very sharp now, very similar to the 650. Too bad the 500 is still exactly the same. You'd think they would be similar enough to do both at the same time. |

I'm betting the 250R is actually the better seller, so it got the much-needed attention first. I'll bet the 500R gets updated for 2009. ~S |

I'd sooner bet that the 500R is dropped for the 650R |

Midknyte, I wouldn't bet on it. The 500 is still a strong seller despite its dated appearance and internals. It is a rock solid bike at a rock bottom price that has a big cult following. It is also very successful on the racing circuit with many go fast goodies and suspension upgrades available. I am always amazed at how fast and flickable the 500 is every time I ride my wife's bike. An upgrade might cannibalize 650 sales though. Do a search for ZZR250. It's been sold for years, but **surprise*** not in the US. |

I doubt the used 250s will drop much. I just bought one off Craigslist and the guy was desperate to sell it to us (first people to look at it) quick because he was sick of his phone ringing off the hook. His phone kept ringing while we were there and 3 more people showed up early to look at. He could have started a bidding war for that damn thing there was so much interest. I first thought it may be a scam (friends called and showed up to make it look like there was a lot of interest) but he sold it to us for well under blue book and it checked out to be mechanically solid. Just missing one passenger peg. Perfect little scoot for city driving. |

I sure would like to ride one. If anyone gets one, let me ride it. |

That 250 is very nice looking. I got one up to an indicated 95 mph a few years ago. It's a shame Buell only has the hideous looking Blast on the small end of the lineup. If they put a more lively Blast engine in a package that somewhat resembled it's bigger siblings, I think they'd have a winner. (Message edited by x1glider on October 02, 2007) |

Gee, I had my ugly little Blast going up a mountain on I-64 doing 85 and passing a semi and it has one less lung and 7,000-less rpm. |

one in the garage now, they NEED to work on a better gearing ratio, shifting every 10 mph sucks, wound out in 3rd at 45? wtf it is a fun bike, I ride it so we dont have to keep putting new batteries in the thing. funny thing about a trickle charger... they dont work if you dont plug them in, and they WONT revive a dead battery. |

I think the Blast engine would be perfectly fine if they'd give it a sportier chassis to sit in. The Blast is not a very pretty bike. The funky footpeg braces just kill the visuals... weird swoopy things running every direction. Fix that and give it a sportier front fairing, and I bet they'd sell like crazy. ~SM |

Here's a quick Photo"chop" of the direction I believe the Blast should go. And yes, that's a Kawasaki Z1000 fairing. I think a design more like this would really give the Japanese intros a run for their money.

My first bike was an old ninja 250. Was great to learn on. Couldn't get out of its own way sometimes (especially with 180lbs of me on it, ahh the good old days.) |

My wife and I had a good look at the 250 yesterday at the Paris Moto Show. Nice looking bike and the wife really liked the seating position. She had a Kawi 250 as her first and only moto for several years and really enjoyed it. Now she wants one of the new ones before moving up to a 650R when she is able to get back to riding in a few years. We've got to wait until we back in the US (registration and insurance are stupid expensive in Europe) and also have to wait until our 8 mo old son is a little older. |

Matty, that bike looks like fun, they also have one in the yellow and black anniversary colors. If they would bring bikes like that to the states maybe more first timers would buy it instead of a 130hp 600. |

that'll be the girlfriends' first bike if she passes AND enjoys the msf course next spring. i had her sit on a blast, she hated it. she thinks it's ugly. she liked the old 250r when she sat on it, but really digs the new looks. now all i have to do is convince her that not everyone that gets on a bike is killed.
