I'll have to give Atlanta GA my vote. Been to all most half the 48 states and a lot of them rank up there. But Atlanta never fails to leave me white knuckled and enraged by the time I get thru it.Charlie |

Left freeway lanes are often seen as the "thru" lanes in the metro areas to make room for all the merging traffic. Kind of a hassle to have to lane jump every mile or so everytime you come across an offramp or onramp. There is no such thing as a "fast lane". The only time the left lane is a "thru" lane is when you are on a 2 lane (same direction) highway in a metro area and only in a metro area. When the exits are a few miles apart or 3 or more lanes wide, the left lane is a passing lane. The middle lanes are your "thru" lanes. Every place in the US has bad drivers since most people have a you me first attitude. All people have to do is make a conscious effort to stay out of other peoples way while driving. |

G4string, Thats the first time I've seen that version of FIB. You guys maybe better drivers but you just can't keep a constant speed on the freeway! |

I would like to give a nod and push to washington as housing and fostering the worst drivers I have ever seen. We were kind enough to share the distraction of the Latte cup with the rest of the nation. And a large influence on the cell phone phenomenon. Of course we can claim no proprietary ownership to no talent hacks in their SUV/Minivan behemouths and the stupidity that follows them every where they go. Traffic & drivers here are the reasons I ride OFFROAD |

I used to think WA had the worst drivers, but after my last long trip I have to give that nod to Denver. They are crazy for the sake of crazy. A close second will go to Florida. WA drivers are too passive aggressive. More accidents happen because people are struggling to around the slower drivers. Best drivers in my view are from CA. |

the one thing i noticed about the columbus,OH area was that when the light turns green you better wait about ten seconds more cause i was shown on more than one occasion that if you have a red light, you still have the right to make that turn in front of traffic or to go straight. the last time i was up there last month, heading back home and some lady who's back fender was even with my front wheel decided she wanted to be over in my lane and almost hit me and the wife. when i pulled along side of her to see if she noticed what she did she flipped me off. i wanted to throw my leatherman at the dumb bitch but i like it to much. |

Actually, Chicago traffic is not that bad in that everybody goes where they want to go and everyone understands that is just how it works. i.e. nobody gets pissed off about it. Try that crap driving anywhere else and other people in traffic either get in competition with each other or road rage / vigilantism breaks out. |

Wow, per capita, California wins as best. I'm not surprised, it's often unbelievably mellow on the freeway, compared to Atlanta, or the big cities in the north-east. |

Urban drivers everywhere are insane. You have to drive like that to get anywhere. I would vote for Boston to be one of the worst places to drive for two reasons: First, there are very few road signs in New England (not just Mass). "Go east on Boylsten, and take a right on Charles." Isn't a direction you can follow, because there is no sign any where that says you are on Boylsten, or when you get to Charles. Sound crazy? It is. Second, the pedestrians are beyond learning disabled. There are signs everywhere that say drivers have to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. It's annoying when they cross while you have the green, but I can accept the local law... WHEN THEY BOTHER TO CROSS IN THE CROSSWALK! Apparently "look before crossing the street" is not a piece of wisdom passed down the generations to young Bostononians either. I was driving down a dark street desperately looking for a street sign, and there was suddenly a guy walking leisurely across the street about 30 feet from the intersection and crosswalk. I locked up my brakes and stopped about 3 feet from him. He proceeded to curse at me and tell me to watch where I was going. While I agree that I should have been paying more attention to the road, he shouldn't have been anywhere near there in the first place. And doesn't that list from the insurance company take theft and vandalism into account for that score? If so, then it really isn't a very accurate assessment of the drivers. I live in DC, have driven in many major cities, and don't find any one to be much worse than the other... except for Boston. |

Second, the pedestrians are beyond learning disabled I find it safer in many places not to cross at the crosswalk - cars bunch up at the intersection and no one has the patience to let you walk all the way out of their way, let alone across the intersection. |

So it's safer to walk out into 45mph oncoming traffic in the dark? (Message edited by cereal on October 02, 2007) |

Washington, knocking on door to number #1. I bet if you look at the accidents in OREGON a fair number of them were caused by Washington drivers ;P All there on their tax free spending weekends |
