I bought the American Sport Bike kit along with the catch can and breather filter. I have a few questions. Al supplied the kit with a three way tee fitting. I use this tee to connect both head breather lines and route them to a catch can. My question is what is the other fitting on the catch can for? Is this a vent? I am assuming that the line from the three way fitting for the head breathers connects to the top og the catch can. I am uncertain about the other fitting on the catch can. Also, what about the crankcase breather line and filter. That OEM route was under the air box and terminates with nothing - just an open hose hanging out. Where do I route this line to make an easy connection/access to the filter. Can I attach the filter to the lower air box plate and have it vent into the open air box? I am unsure where to route and mount this little bastard. Thanks!! |

The other line does indeed vent to the atmosphere. You do need to put a filter on it to prevent the accidental intake of dirt and debris. The factory line vents to the inside of the bike's air filter and that prevents the same from happening there. |

Brian, I made a mistake........the line in question is coming from the tranny - not the crankcase. My terminology was mixed up. The hose in question comes out of of the tranny just under the starter and is routed up the frame. It hangs out underneath the lower air box lid. I am assuming this hose justs gets left alone since it was never routed into the airbox to begin with. Am I correct to just leave the tranny vent alone? I think this is how it goes - Tee both crankcase lines together and route to lower catch can fitting. Then attach tubing to top catch fitting and route tubing higher than lower fitting...terminate tubing with filter. As far as the tranny vent line that vents to the atmosphere below the lower box cover.....leave it be. It is not part of the catch can-oper air box mod. Does all of this sound correct (Message edited by g4string on September 30, 2007) |

Yes, just leave the tranny vent alone. |

I vented my tranny line to my catch can, just my personal preference. Ken |

just finished the OAB mod. I routed the catch can filter back up to the underside of the lower air box cover. It is nestled in the aft right corner in the open area below the lower air box lid just behind the ignition unit. The only grip I had was that American Sport Bike did not supply enough tubing to route the filter. There was enough tubing to connect the tee fitting to the can - that was it. I had to go to Farm and Fleet and purchase $6 more worth of tubing to finish the job. Also, it seems that the instructions tell you to connect the line coming off the tee (crankcase) to the top fitting. That doesn't make since to me. Wouldn't you want the line coming from the crank (tee) to the lower fitting on the catch can and have your breather filter line on the top fitting of the can? That way all of the gunk is below the filter line and deposits straight into the can. |

If you vent your transmission to a catch-can that the engine is also vented to, be careful to route the lines so that pressure from the breather doesn't force spooge and water into the trans vent. Also, be aware that the transmission will actually start sucking air in slightly when the bike is cooling. If there is any spooge in the lines, it'll settle into the transmission before it cools and congeals. |
