I want to be able to pump up the horsepower without having to sacrifice a tremendous amount of money. I've already got a race ECM and pipe. Suggestions welcome. Cheers~ |

Cheapest might be just the K&N replacement of stock air cleaner. Difference between Force and Hurricane might be as much about knee clearance and looks. I suspect the difference in performance might not be that much. But without a side by side dyno test, I would guess the edge would have to go to the Hurricane due to the square inches of filter area is so much greater. |

Oh, yeah... nice. I'm sure the NRHS unit is a lot sturdier than the functionally identical but flimsy CF race kit hamcan. I ran the Forcewinder for awhile and then the CF race kit hamcan. The oval hamcan interefered with my right knee and I fractured the CF cover pretty easily. I'd stay away from a hamcan type filter unless you're sure you can put up with the interference. I couldn't with my 34" inseam and it was almost a very expensive mistake. I was eventually able to trade the cracked filter assembly to Smoke for an S1 tank (thanks Tim!). He apparently has the capability to repair CF because of his aviation background. |

I am thinking of getting the Hurricane filter. I haven't had any clearance issues with the stock breadbox so I'm hoping that I won't with the Hurricane style either. Guess I'll find out quickly. BTW, DJ, I sent you a pm, not sure if you got it, maybe you just weren't interested... was worth a try, anyway. |

Is it an absolute neccessity to rejet after installing a HurricaneFlow or Forcewinder? |

Well, the used bike I bought had the Race Kit ham can and K&N filter, and a V&H exhaust and was still running stock jets. I thought it ran pretty darned strong. Based on that, I say NO. But if I was going to spend from $260 to $310 on an intake, I would surely spend the $2.95 that J&P Cycles charges for a new #45 Slow Speed jet to make it actually work. Changing this one jet is often enough, it's cheap, and simple enough even I could do it, in about 10 minutes. Afterward, you can feel the difference when you accelerate through the gears. Your 2002 should be fuel injected no? The race ecm takes care of the fuel in that case. A trick I learned from a fellow Badwebber is to unhook battery for 5 minutes. Then hook it back up and get on the road and try to stay at a constant 3000 rpm. This will allow ecm to relearn fuel/air curve. Worked like a gem in my case. Best of luck. |

Wile you are correct. The X1 is fuel injected. There are no jets to change. Fuel flow will have to be adjusted electronically or by changing injectors. If race chip isn't doing it for you , you can add a Power Commander. |

You may want to reset TPI -- I had to after installing a Forcewinder on my 2000 FI S3. |
