Well folks, live and learn, hindsight is 20/20, etc. Basically, I traded my Buell in on a Sportster due to insurance reasons and I just can't get over it. I'm selling my Sportster to pay for another Buell... 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom in Black Cherry/Pewter w/2400 miles, purchased new at AD Farrow Northstar in June. Factory warranty untill June 1, 2009. Bike has Screaming Eagle slash out slip-ons, saddlebag supports, saddlebags, extra chrome, factory service manual, 1k service was done w/full synthetics, $8800.00 Essentially, I miss this... So... I'm selling this.

I'm not sure... Did I meet you at Best Buy in Reynoldsburg, Ohio? I'm pretty sure I am, you have family in Columbus, live in Florida and work in Tn? If so, how are the bags working out? |

good. i appreciate it very much. so you just couldn't handle the sportster any more or just really like the buell to much. i know i couldn't ever own a sportster having rode my buddy's one time. i was back up there a few weeks ago and stopped in at the iron pony again and this time after hearing that mikef5000 got a great deal on some leather, i went ahead and got some also. super nice guys up there and they even shipped them to me down in chattanooga cause i was on the ultra that weekend. the next time i get up that way i'll try and give you a shout. talk to you later. |

I just really liked the Buell. The Sportster is a great bike, but I want something that can handle any situation. |

Having just sold a Harley this summer, it's my impression that you can do better trying to sell one in the local paper if you're in a decent sized city than you can on the net. |

Well... I do live in Columbus, Ohio. It's on www.cycletrader.com and the magazine. www.xlforum.com, www.craigslist.com, and www.columbusracing.com If there's no interest by Thursday, I'll submit it to the local paper. I never considered the paper as even a possibility. |

Based on what the auction closing prices were on ebay, I'm guessing I walked away $1250-$2000 to the good on my sale by selling locally. I think the Harley demographic is probably a different group than riders of other brands; there's a % of older riders/buyers that either aren't computer literate or comfortable buying a bike over the net. Good luck! |

How much was your difference in Insurance between a Sporty & a Buell? I'm a nosy Sportster owner looking to buy a Buell sometime soon. |

Well, long story short, Progressive gave me discounts I wasn't entitled to. I never asked for them and it's still a mystery. I kept getting notices to send in a copy of a deed to my house, marriage license, etc for my discounts. I called them and explained that I'm single and don't own. They doubled my insurance. I went from $60/month to $115/month, when I traded it in on the Sporty, it went to $21/month! As much as I like the Sporty, it's not a Buell. I'm either going to get an X1 soon and just pay the insurance (not horrible, $50/month for good coverage) or, since I don't have a ton of bills, I'll just save up cash and buy a mildly used XB. |
