Hey badwebbers,
I have an 03 xb9r with no mods..and I am by no means a mechanic and of course my bike is not running correctly on the nicest days we have had all month. Anyway the problems are as follows.
1. the Idle was low and the bike was stalling out after about 30 seconds of hunting. So the Jackass I am I twisted the throttle slack adjustment cables thinking it would raise the idle speed. IT didnt obviously.
so i came in and read the troubleshooting threads and figured out where the real idle knob is and that I had to ride it good for 10-15 minutes to warm up the engine.
2.. When i got on the bike all seemed well until I got on the road and and the bike fealt like a mechanical bull in 1st-4th gear....road for about 15 minutes enigne was warm but the buckin/surging/bogging down never stopped. Twice the engin below my right leg made a quick buzz sound then stopped.
hopefully this is enough info to get so help. I dont live anywhere close to a buell servicing dealarship(i dont think) and would like to fix this myself if possible.
any help is muchoooo appreciated.

The buzz by the right knee sounds like it could be a fuel pump issue, and that could be consistent with your other symptoms.
The $50 for the service manual will be a lot cheaper then throwing parts at it until it gets better. I have no idea what the test procedure for the fuel pump would be. I have some ideas, but I bet the manual has even better ones. |

Isn't the fuel pump by the left knee? |

There might be something loose inside the timing cavity interefering with the timing cup and cam position sensor. That might explain the rough running. |

Kinda sounds like a tank of crap gas...the hiss you may be hearing is the water shooting through your hot exhaust which explains the right side. I had a similar issue and after hours of diagnostics discovered a fair amount of water in my tank. |

thanks!.... I will give all of these suggestions a good looking at.. and I will purchase the the service manual!..
the buzz I don't think was water because it coincided with a dying stutter of the engine. and was a more clicky sounding buzz. Although it has been very humid and damp up here in the trees. |

For anyone that cares... I took the bike apart tonight and checked the plugs and just looked around in general. The plugs looked okay not fouled a lil black but may be du to my letting idle too long sometimes. anyway when taking the airbox apart i noticed the two tubes next to the sensor were really high and the seal ring around the velocity stack wasnt "sealed" so after checking the plugs and then putting everything back together and making sure the tubes were now below then sensor and the ring was sealed. cover on. seat on. grabbed the key... turned on the bike and all sounded much better ... RPMs were up(i hadnt adjusted anything to raise them other than get to the plugs and put it back together) ... I went for a ride (40 degrees) and the bike ran fantastic. not sure i really did anything except seal that ring and lower the tubes next to the sensor. but it alll works again....
