You know you can put bags on anything. Somehow that sounds like the line from the Fockers about milking cats. The CityX goes Baggin well enough, make the passenger get her own ;)

From everything I'm reading, the new concours is one hell of a performance machine! I guess I'll add that to the list of would-be competition: I love your P-Shop! Not exactly how I would want the bike, but the P-shop is a great example of what could be! The uly bags are rugged. I love them on the Uly! On a more sport bike, I would like them to be a little more smooth and sleek. |

O yeah... I've been meaning to throw this out here for awhile... This thread is not really a question for Eric and friends anymore... it's not really appropriate for this section. Sorry. |

That massive exhaust can seems to be all the rage in jap bikes lately. I despise them. |

I had a hugh crush on the new Concours until I took a look at the weight. Its 700 pounds if its an ounce. The reason I threw the Uly bags on is because that saves Buell the hassel of designing model specific luggage. If they use the Uly bags, rack, and as much of the tail section as possible, they save a ton of money. If All they have to do is go to the parts bin, grab some uly stuff and slap it on the 1125, plus some adaptor hardware and 2 or 3 cheap, model specific parts like the screen and the handlebars, then its alot more likely that they could actually build this bike - or even offer it as a limited edition build to order options package... Back to the Concours, while I dislike the weight, it is the same price as an 1125r and I have to say, if I were buying a bike today, it would be it. I hope I can buy a Buell Sport Touring bike instead... |

I hope buell builds a sport tourer. I'm afraid they might go down that VFR,Sprint etc. path again. They just don't sell well. They need to take a good look at the larger sport tourers aka bmw RT/GT new Connie. FJR. these are longer wheelbase platforms better for touring while still being very capable handlers.I don't think slapping bags and a tall shield is enough. |

I don't think slapping bags and a tall shield is enough. Hell, throw some lockable, hard case, easily detachable bags on a XB12R Firebolt and I'd be satisfied! As long as it is black and cherry bomb... But maybe it's just me... 1313 |

Folks: I sold my 01 goldwing and got a Uly with bags. The Buell is as good and as capable as the wing was. I do miss the plug and play of the electronics and also all the accessory parts for the wing, but I would not go back. I find the Uly as comfortable on a 2K mile trip as the wing was, perhaps a little bit wetter in the rain, but that is what rain gear is for. I like the idea of the lump being so easy to work on with a minimum of tools etc. My two cents, I think that Buell has made a touring bike competative with the new Goldwings, the Kaw concours, the FJR and also the sport touring bikes etc! this in my opinion is a do it all bike for my needs. I know this is the 1125R thread, but I just thought I would throw these comments in response to fast2win's comment. No disrespect meant just being an exWinger and also being a prior owner of a Connie I thought I would speek up. |

Thanks for chiming in! My problem with the Uly as a sport tourer is that it is quite tall. Lot's of people don't like that height, and don't need it. |

Well, I just pulled my deposit. The bent up leg position shied me away from the 1125R right now, I am having a hard time with my knee and just can't do any more time in a racer bend. My XB9S with the traction pegs was killing me after just a few miles or so and I decided the bend in the knees from the pictures looked about the same as what was killing me. The good news is...Drum Roll, PLEEZ..... There is the NEW Kawa Concours 14 sitting in my garage. It's a bit of a pig, weightwise, when not moving, but it sure is nice and smooth, handles pretty well for a tour bike, and pulls hard from 2 to 3K rpm all the way up. Lots more room to relax my leg, but I haven't been cross state yet. Maybe two years down the line when they smooth out the 1125R and make it a sport tourer I can consider a jump back in to Buells, but I might stay with the KAW for a bit, it does have a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. Good Luck to all in the superbike world, but I made the right choice for me right now. (Message edited by CURTYD on October 07, 2007) |

So far it's good. I was worried about the heat issues some had raised but I always wear gear so it doesn't seem to be an issue for me yet. It is back to the Goldwing regimen as far as pushing it around the garage and paddling around a parking lot at low speed, twist the wheels into the stops and she'll go over, I don't think I could pick it up if it did, even though I did pick up a GW1500 years ago, I don't think I am up to it anymore with this back and knees, although I just did finish pushing my old RD400 a mile or two home the other day when the electrics crapped out. The KAW rides nice though, very smooth motor, with that tq pull from the bottom end that I liked in the Buells. The curves are pretty amazing in the DYNO charts, Motorcyclist has a recent one and it is pulling 60 ft/lbs at 3K rpm. She is very taut in the suspension just like I like most of my bikes. Would I like it if it dropped a 150lbs or so? Maybe, but not sure I'd get the freeway express it is right now, I was doing 85 the other day in OD sixth and I was barely pulling 4K rpms. On a personal note, I think BUELL dropped the ball a bit with the release info in July and no bikes available until Nov./Dec. Five to six months is a LONG wait for a recreational purchase, it could be another reason I jumped ship as well. When you are ready for a new bike, waiting isn't in the cards. I made a really good deal too and it is a lot of bike for the same money as the 1125R. I was vacillating between the FJR and the C-14 but I like this one and the KIPASS and tire monitor systems are great bonuses in use that the FJR didn't have. It definitely has all the sport bits, slipper clutch, radial brakes, and the actual weight is only 15lbs more than the FJR, not too bad. I went non-ABS to keep the price down and because it was in the showroom. I haven't had ABS yet on a bike so I won't know anything about missing it. I probably would not like too well feeling the "pulsing" under the levers, anyhow. With a four year old and family commitments I haven't been getting a lot of seat time, but I do have a business commitment several hundred miles away outside Tallahassee, so I should run some long distance miles in the next few months, I'll let you know in another topic area, maybe. Keep me posted on the Sport Touring ACTUAL, not photoshopped, conversions the 1225 buyers make, OK? |

Did anyone ever determine if the Uly tail section would bolt up to the 1125R? If so, what sort of parts list would be required, and what kind of cost would I be facing? |

Five to six months is a LONG wait for a recreational purchase Yup, But I'd much rather have a well sorted out bike, VS being a 'beta' tester for them with a $12K purchase. Buell has learned a *LOT* about the bikes being thrashed by all the inside pass track days. Did anyone ever determine if the Uly tail section would bolt up to the 1125R? No, it will not. Not without carving away too much material. The C/L distance between the two holes that attach the tail section to the frame are different between the normal 1125R, XBR, XBS, than the STT, SS, and Uly. And even then, the tire will most likely contact the undertail when the shock nears full compression. Maybe anon could chime in. |

Curt, I'm only familiar with the BMW motorcycle ABS system, but I can tell you that this system (at least) does NOT pulse at either the brake or foot pedal. You're thinking of automotive systems, I think. Then again, I'm not familiar with the systems used by the other motorcycle manufacturers. For all I know, they do "pulse." |

Then again, I'm not familiar with the systems used by the other motorcycle manufacturers. For all I know, they do "pulse." I've had two BMWs (1200GS & 1200ST) that have the current generation ABS and both of them work flawlessly. However, there is definitely pulsation in the rear brake pedal when the ABS kicks in. Once you figure out what it is, it's a non-issue from them on. just my $.02 - and worth every penny! |

How did we go from bolting a Uly tail on an Eleven to bmw abs pulsation? Steve - as the resident expert - can you envision any way to graft a uly tail on the Eleven? For example, some kind of mounting Adaptor + custom seat mods etc.? |

Naustin, I'm no expert, and I apologize if I came off as such. I'm just speaking from what *I* have learned doing my Ulybolt project, so YMMV! But, IMHO, the way to do this is custom tail section rails, and custom undertail. Or at least a partial custom undertail. Then it would be a doable thing. But to *PROPERLY* do the tail section rails may be cost prohibitive for those that don't have access to CNC machines |

Doing the Ulybolt conversion is what makes you the expert in my book... Well, if you have to machine big parts like that to make it work, maybe it would be easier to adapt a set of givi cases. Of course, going that route means you wouldn't have the passanger accomadations that come with the uly seat. Then again, the Eleven's shock might not be able to handle a passanger and a full set of luggage anyway, so you'd have to go aftermarket there too... If Buell puts the Helicon motor in the Uly, they will solve most of our problems for us. From there, we can use the formula you've already laid out with the ulybolt conversion... |

Thanks for the vote of confidence. But, lets just say... Hypothetically for a minute.... An enterprising individual would offer said tail section rails, undertail, and battery relocation, etc.. Everything except for those parts that are offered by Buell... What would one be willing to pay for an entire "1125RT" kit like this?

Uly bags on an "R"? Kit minus bags? Will the trunk work? Know how much the bags cost? Uly seat? Resulting seat height? Weight addition (minus bags)? I'd be very interested. |

Going by my Ulybolt build... The seat height would actually be the same, or slightly lower. It would include just the parts this theoretical person would make... A Battery relocation kit, undertail, and the side rails. Bags, bag mounting hardware and Uly seat and such would have to be sourced from a Buell dealer. Or maybe this theoretical person could make a deal to offer an entire '1125RT' bike fully bagged out This is *NOT* something that could be done overnight, nor for a minimal cost on the development front. For one thing, this theoretical person would need to have an 1125R for an adequate amount of time to work out the fitment and wiring(the wiring *WOULD* need be changed, just like my ulybolt project). Needless to say, this isn't an EASY project. |

IMO, the whole project would have to cost $2,000 or less. A new set of factory bags and the racks are a grand by themselves, aren't they?? The seat is another, what $300-$400? So that leaves $600 to $700 for the rails and every thing else that is needed.... Maybe it isn't do-able for $2,000... Of course, I just put $10,000 in windows and $3,000 in a new furnace in my house, so I'm not seriously looking to replace the S3T for a couple more seasons anyway. |
