does anyone know if the 1125r engine will fit in the xb12r's chassis? and next, will buell co. be selling the engine separately, on special order? is there ANY point in hotting up my xb12r's engine for twins racing next year - since it has been crashed a few times i am under no illusions of selling it on. if anyone has ridden the hotted up racebikes AND the 1125r, is there any point at all putting $$ into the xb12r engine, if i cannot get an 1125r engine to fit in there. sorry if these are questions .. just wanted to save myself some dreaming if i can! cheers, paul. |

The 1125r was made to Buell specs, including mounting points where BUELL wanted them (vs XB engine). The 1125R must have been Buell engineers' wet dream. |

I would love to see Buell start selling "crate" motors, both the air cooled and the Rotax. |

It might be easier to just put 1340 RR motor in |

1125R motor is not a drop-in. The XBRR is closer. If you have a race license, you can get a stock motor stamped "race only" (no VIN) through your dealer for a reasonable price but it's a test motor that will have some test miles on her. Not a lot but it's not going to be a new motor. You can buy a NEW motor in a crate but you may as well buy a whole used XB. If you are planning to race - check the rules with the specific racing organization you will be racing with before investing time and money. The pushrod/air-cooled/2-valve motors often will be elegible for more classes than the liquid cooled motors - or will have better displacement allowances. GENERALLY - the pushrod/aircooled bikes - Buell, HD, BMW, Guzzi - are allowed to race 1200cc against the typical 750 for liquid cooled/4-valve OHC bikes. Varies depending on Clubs but that's a general idea. You can still race against the bigger bikes too but if you have a liquid cooled 4-valve OHC motor, you're going to be stuck racing against the bigger twins - Aprilia, Ducati, Honda (RC51) and similar. If you have the money, a punched-out XB9 motor (short stroke) - makes for a sweeter responding roadracing motor than a 12 in the hands of the typical Club racer. Higher redline and quicker revving. Dunno if this makes sense... it's early, coffee hasn't kicked in and brain is only about 50% right now. (Message edited by slaughter on September 22, 2007) |

makes total sense against my beer-addled, UFC fueled mind .. so .. if i bore out my xb12r to 1450 but retain stroke .. am i killing myself? also, chain-drive convert & re-sprocketing, is is still a waste .. being i know i need to flow more & have heating issues as well as gearbox/clutch .. its always been a hard call, but my bike has salvage title .. so am i better off making it a hardtail chopper, or a crashed not-crotch rocket??!! ;P paul |

The 1450 big bore might make you inelegible for most classes. Check your rules. ANYTIME you go over 1200cc, you are risking it. Again - racing is different than street riding. On the street, it really doesn't matter. Just check the rules before you put money into a big bore. That big motor is likely only "legal" in one class of unlimited Twins racing, whereas the stock motor is usually legal in 4-6 different classes. That's true in our area - WSMC, CCS, WERA - not sure about other racing organizations. We are working Bartels Reacing's bike - the XBRR in an XB12 chassis with the RR swingarm. Not tuned up right yet - wrong dyno guy doing the work not understanding the mapping needs for the module. It's a pain - they shoulda just bought the RR instead of trying to "save money." Also, I think dealer cost on the crate motor (XBRR) is about $18,000 (including injection system and tuning program/ECM) - if you don't have a dealer willing to work with you, you can pay more. With a racing license and a dealer who will work with you, you CAN get a race only engine (a low mileage test mule engine - bone stock) for somewhere around $2,000 - YMMV - but it has NO VIN - it's stamped "RACE ONLY" where the VIN normally goes and if you EVER put one on the street, here in the USA, it'll be impounded if you're pulled over. SOME of the RR stuff can fit the stock bikes - swingarm, slipper clutch. |

at the risk of being boring (pun intended) .. whats involved in making a 1203 into a 1340cc (xbrr) motor? is there somewhere i can find all the modifications required & where to get the things? i am looking at racing in edmonton, alberta, canada for 08 .. its a tight, smaller track. i have race license for calgary, alberta. cmra 17 red, but due to local track politics, i had to bail .. frustrated .. my 1203 has 23000kms on it (~ 14k miles) & is due major service .. hence considering just rebuilding a race only bike from her. any thoughts appreciated .. up here its weight:hp ratio .. so if i over hp it, i can add ballast ... |

You just can't make it into the XBRR motor (bore and stroke) - because the RR has a 3.125 stroke. the XB12 stroke is 3.8125. You just CANNOT get the XB12 engine spinning up that fast with the long stroke of the XB12... and survive more than a couple minutes. The only way to survive higher RPMs will be shorter stroke. The cases just cannot take a bore bigger than about 3 13/16... though I've heard of some thinner walled cylinders - just have no experience with bigger than 3 13/16 bore in the stock XB cases. You have to realize the XBRR has HUGE pistons (4.08 bore) and there's just no room to bore the cases in the stock XB out that big. (Message edited by slaughter on September 24, 2007) |
