So one of my problems is that the last time I drilled out one of the header studs, I didn't get the hole straight and the lower stud was angled. This made the nut only touch on one side. That can't be good. So when I dill it out this time (I'm getting good at this) I want to be sure I have straight header studs. Well I don't think I can straighten up an angled hole. But I'm thinking I can rotate the bracket 90 degrees and drill 2 holes into virgin metal. Does anyone know if it's ok to do this? Am I going to hit anything important inside the engine? Or anything unimportant for that matter? |

My question would be that if you couldnt get that one hole straight, why take a chance on trying to get 2 holes straight? I do not know if there's any problems drilling it out the other way, but I'd try and fix what you've got. You could also go with a slightly bigger stud (metric?) or a stepped stud (the engine side is bigger than the nut side). |

My question would be that if you couldnt get that one hole straight, why take a chance on trying to get 2 holes straight? This time I'll spring the $70 for the Jims guide. ;) But if I can use the existing holes, I may try that. I'm certainly not anxious to drill any new holes. |

It is pretty easy to pull the head, Just Do IT! It will make the process so much easier doing it on a bench or drill press. The Jims guide is a great idea, we can rent it from you when the need arrises. OK, I have an idea, we need a tool guide just like the RAN A listing of tools, who has them and how to borrow them |

I hope they keep making something like the Blast. I'm appreciating the small, fuel-efficient, go anyway nature of the beast after 12 years on a Wing. In fact ... I'm thinking of touring mine next summer about 1500 miles in two weeks to see family and ride with dad (76 years old). Anyone have recommendations on what to get or modify for the long haul? Mine's bone stock. |

I recently bought a 02 blast with 450 miles on it that had been sitting for a couple of years. I drained the gas, oil, and spark plug and have put about 600 miles on it, but in the morning which gets to about 60F it takes forever to get it started, maybe 10 minutes or so of cranking away till it will finally turn over. i also checked the terminals they seemed well connected, its also a new battery. |

Clean the carb jets, while you are in it, put in the 170 main jet and 45 primary jet. Carefully remove the idle mixture screw tamperproof plug and adjust your idle mixture, check your carb boot carefully. Make sure your primary chain is not adjusted too tight. It takes 4000 miles before the Blast loosens up and starts running the way it should. So ride it alot. Good luck, let us know, and Welcome to the Badweb! I've put a Purolator Pure One filter with Mobil 1 20-50 in the frame. I picked up a stock tall seat which is OK in town and seems to do all right on 100 mile jaunts. What seat do you recommend or should I get one custom? It's big bucks, but I don't see a touring bike in my financial future any time soon and I'm seriously wondering if I really need one. The Blast just keeps running better and better (4,300 miles this morning) |

Thanks, EZ. After I go Virginia to Michigan, maybe I'll work out to Ca and we'll go for a blast. |

Is it possible to put the 883 motor in a Buell Blast?? I have an opportunity to pick up a Blast very cheap... it needs transmission work. Was contemplating the Nahlin stuff... but since the Blast engine is half of the 883 would a full 883 fit??? |

I did my first long haul ride Sunday. I road from home to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa about 130 miles round trip. The ride there was great, but my butt took a beating on the way back. I have the low seat. Would the tall seat help my aching arse? |

It really depends on you. Is your low seat is soft or firm? The tall seat might be better because it is (usually) very soft. I prefer the low firm seat. A tall firm seat is also comfortable, but may be impossible to find. The Corbin is far better than either. |

Thanks Erik, --- anybody got an up-to-date vendor for the Corbin seat? Last info was from Sep 04 in the Corbin Seat section. The website: http://www.corbin.com/buell/blast.shtml Has them for $369 (Message edited by jimrich on September 18, 2007) |

I heard too many complaints about fitment on the Corbin. I went with Sargent's, and for $295, had it done exactly how I wanted it. Would the 883 fit if you removed the rear jug? LOL! |

I'm really impressed at the people lately taking the time out (and it does take time) to do installation write ups (with pics even). Thats really in the spirit of Badweb. Thanks to the people in the past who've also done this (EZ especially). Badweb: sharing knowledge and experience. At least thats my utopian view. |
