Anybody heard of a cracked airbox cover by over-torquing the bolt? I got mine back from the HD service department and didn't notice it until I filled up... I am trying to convince them that they did it when they did my service... Sorry if I posted this to the wrong place -- I'm new here! |

Seems to be common on the CityX. They now come with special washers to prevent that. |

Where is the crack? I've heard of the holes getting mashed by the shoulder bolts being driven in without lining up the holes but haven't heard of the covers cracking - the cheapie graphite covers from Ebay would crack/break around the fasteners (NOTE: NOT the American Sport Bike covers) |

Whether they did it or not, it is warranty. They'll replace it or call Buell Customer Care. --Sean |

The two bolts at the very front of the bike. You can just see the holes in this picture... http://a1276.g.akamai.net/7/1276/1354/4eeac6f139e8 cb/www.buell.com/images/products/apparelaccessorie s/productimages/M12243AJMBX_large.jpg Mine is an 06 and the holes are more revealed than this picture shows. |

What Sean said actually makes lots of sense - if they busted/damaged it, they owe you a replacement. If it busted just in normal usage, it IS a warranty issue. I work with plastics - and the Surlyn plastic is much more durable than to be just cracking in use. |

The translucent plastics are much less flexible than their solid counterparts. Either way, hamfisting is the culprit. |

I have a city-x cover on mine and it had hair line cracks when I got it off Ebay and since then has fully cracked but it was cheep. I think there was an update with a small bushing so it wouldn't tighten down on the cover. Ft_bstrd said it perfect hamfisting is the culprit and they owe you a new one. |

I remember a couple of other CityX owners on here who had the airbox replaced under warranty for cracking. I have had my airbox of and on many times, and have learned to just be really careful. You def can not put as much pressure to the Surlyn as you can to the solid. Actually, I find the Surlyn to also scratch too easily and with the "X" that I never use on the airbox, it is difficult to polish. So I am keeping my hero Blue flyscreen, but I ordered a black solid airbox and a set of '08 12R blue "Buell" decals to mount on the black box. There goes my cracking and scratching issue! --Sean |

FWIW - I was told by a tech at local HD/Buell (when I saw a cracked Valencia orange box) that the transparent covers crack quite often - not the solid color ones.. I think he said like every third had to replaced under warranty.. |

Thespive - what are you going to do with you Hero Blue airbox cover? I would be interested in the X off of it for A different set I have. I find it comes in very handy when your trying to keep something on the tank. |

Hey Tq, I think I am just going to keep it in a box in case I want to return to stock down the line. --Sean |
