My XB has a VERY violent sputtering in which the throttle response is totally unreliable and power delivery comes in spurts. I think it might be the fuel injection system; I've put through the liquid fuel additives that are supposed to clean the injection system out but those have done absolutely nothing. When the bike warms up, the problem is less noticeable but is still there. Anyone have any clue what this problem could be and what I could do to remedy the problem? Is this something only a technician can take care of by cracking the engine open? Thanks. | ||

It could be a loose spark plug wire. I almost tore my hair out one time looking for the root of my sputtering, and it wound up being a loose cable at the coil. I didn't think that was it because it did seem to run better warm, but it stopped sputtering once I fully seated it. Or it could be an intake leak. | ||

You have the same bike I do...on my stock plug wires, the front one had rubbed through on the inside of the frame and was arcing...especially when wet. I would check that and get the updated plug wires. Otherwise I would second a loose wire especially if it is intermittent. After that would be TPS but if this is all of the sudden coming on and intermittent...the TPS would be nice to have but not likely to be the majority of the problem unless something changed in your throttle cable behavior. | ||

You might also check the little vacuum plug on the throttle body. Make sure it hasn't dryrotted and split. Mine had split in a couple of places, and was like riding a bucking bronco. | ||
