I'm browsing around for a new pair of gloves. I've heard from a few people that Held gloves are the way to go, but they have owned older models. Any advice, models to look for and to avoid? TIA, Phat |

I just bought a set. $250.00 and worth every penny. They are the best fitting and most comfortable gloves that I have ever owned. I haven't had to try out their protective qualities, hopefully never will. That being said they armor is substantial and they look like they would survive a serious off. Buy them. |

I have a pair and they were comfortable right from the start. In fact, I tried them on every week for two months before I finally broke down and bought a pair. The woman behind the counter told me everyone in the shop KNEW I was going to eventually buy them... they just weren't sure how long it would take. Ever since Intersports Fashions went belly up they've been hard to find (along with Schuberth helmets and Oxtar boots). |

I have a pair of Held's that are my everyday gloves when it is not too hot (they are not perforated or vented). The fingers just were slightly long when new but they settled in in a month or two and are fine now. They have about 18 months of use and look like they are good for at least that much longer. I paid about $70 for those, I don't know what costs $250 but I didn't see any that expensive when I bought mine. http://www.heldusa.com/index.htm Jack |

My Held gloves are 11 years old. Within the past 6 months they've begun to wear significantly... seams have parted, palms worn out, holes in the fingertips. Yet, these are the best gloves I've yet to own. They've been with me for untold street miles, raced through two seasons... can't say enough about them. They're old friends which I am very reluctantly retiring sometime soon, maybe |

I'd like to chime in here too. Mine cost $180 and were worth it. The index finger on left side has a wiper for when it rains too! My previous gloves were great too. they are firstgear but they don't make that model anymore. |

Those are on the site I posted a link to also, I just did not see them the first time. http://www.heldusa.com/phantom.htm The kangaroo leather and Kevlar and all the other stuff, along with a very good service life, certainly would not make them too expensive. You only get one set of hands. It is like buying a good helmet. What is your head worth to you? Read one description of what happens to the hands and wrists when a falling rider instinctively tries to break his fall with his hands. It makes me shudder to think about it... Let's all keep our heads in the ride, the rubber down, and go with the best of luck! Jack (Message edited by jackbequick on September 07, 2007) |

I have a set of beefy cow Held gloves. I LOVE them... Since I have to replace my summer gloves, I am finally going to get a set of Kangaroo gloves ($-ouch). They just get more comfortable with age. |

I was looking at those Held gloves. If you really can get 5 to 8 seasons out of them, they are actually fairly cheap. I was looking hard at them when I saw a $18 pair of "decent" Joe Rocket gloves on closeout. They were a "funny" color, but one that matches my jacket, so I jumped on that. But if those only last a season, then my next set will probably be Held. Looks like you can get a decent pair for a reasonable price, especially if you take into account shipping costs / acquisition headaches of replacing gloves every year and a half. |

When I crashed and ruined yet another pair of Helds (that was #2) I bought a pair of Phantoms. Expensive, but to me worth it. There were rumblings that some Held gloves (the less pricey ones) are made overseas and only the more expensive race gloves are made in Germany. I have no experience with any other than their top of the line race gloves, but I really like them; perfect fit for me. The Kangaroo leather palms are thin but strong and provide great feel. Padding and knuckle guards are well made and have saved my hands probably 4 times by now. Henrik |

If my sweetie hadn't bought me a pair of Helimots for my birthday I would have bought a pair of Helds. Now I have to wait til they wear out. I suspect it's gonna be awhile cuz they are really nicely constructed. |

Buying Held gloves is like buying an Arai helmet. There are cheaper alternatives, but they are IMHO the BEST. I'm currently wearing a pair of tour master race gauntlets when I ride, but when they wear out I'll be going back to Held. My head and my hands are not the places I want to cut corners protecting. |

My Held Phantoms fit more comfortably and are easier to get one and off then my Alpinestars GP Techs. My GP Techs blew a hole in the palm after one crash. The Phantoms have the ray skin in that area which would have held up (no pun intended). Held offers better range in sizing then any other brand that I know of. I wear a 9+. They even make this model in a size that my girlfriend can wear, which is very uncommon for a high end glove. |

I have a pair of Held Ninja gloves. Can't say I'm impressed. Internal seams can be irritating, but that seems to be less of an issue this season than last season. |
