Ok... So I my wife has started to ride on the back of my Scg. I like having her along, but you know it's already a tight fit for one person let alone two. After about 45 minutes together, it feels like I can't get far enough forward to get out of her way. I think it's the position of the handle bars. I know that the Firebolts have Clip ons. Has anyone tried putting them on the Lightening? I think if I had further to reach for the bars, I might be able to get more comfortable with her on the back... |

I put them on mine. Its a bunch of work. It might have been easyer to get the cross roads conversion but I cant stand the way they look. The firebolt set up isnt a direct swap and you have to make / mod a bunch of stuff to get it to work right. But now it looks sweet and like it was there from day one. |

There are many different handlebars that mount on the S top triple that will put your hands further forward. Or you can just get the crossroads bars. |

XB12mel, I wanted more forward lean. I installed a set of Protaper bars with the Precision Engineering clamps.
I think that would be a much easier option to trying to convert to clip ons. |

I wonder if a straight bar would work? Nope. Nicest looking, Firebolt clipons. Also one of the most work, we've done a few. 2nd option, Crossraods, easiest to do. 3rd option, real clipons, no quite as difficult, but you have to use different bolts to move everything out and away from the clipons. Trojan has done this and it looks damn good. The Firebolt, is probably the best way to go with regards to feel, because it was set up by Buell. The Crossroads are 2nd because they are a bit wider, and a little more upright. The clipons are lower than the Firebolt, but I haven't ridden with them, so I can't say how they feel. ^^^All of the above is only my opinion, yours may very.^^^ |

I'm not sure that lowering the bars for riding two-up is going to make you happy. I had the stock bars on mine. When i went to the crossroads -7 degree bars, my wife had to lean into me to keep hold, so it winds up putting more weight on my arms when i stop. Since we are both pitched forward i get her upper body weight too. The more upright position was easier for me when i had my wife on the back. Just my experience. Then again, i love the lower bars. |

My problem when we would ride is being too far forward. Every time I would break, my wife would slide forward crushing my boys in to the airbox. Ouch. If she gets serious about 2-up, we are getting a Uly. --Sean |

Hey y'all. Tell your passenger to put their hands on the "tank" while your slowing down/stopping. That way they're pushing on that, and not you. It's what we do, I've seen New12r's wife do it as well. Trust me, it's a much smoother ride that way. |

I was just going to suggest that. Although, if my wife can reach the tank while riding on the Uly, we are already decelerating at quite a clip and preparing for a crash. |

FtB, Uly passengers need not apply My wife can hide from me on the back of the Uly -- I think she gets a kick out of watching me looking through the mirrors and over my shoulders trying to figure out if she's still on. |

Bigdaddy, It's funny you should say that. The first time my wife rode on the back, I was afraid she had bailed off somewhere. It wasn't until I put on the brakes to go back to look for her that she clonked helmets with me. "Oh, there you are!" I wish you were coming down for Buelltoberfest. I'd really like to meet you. |

I wish you were coming down for Buelltoberfest. I'd really like to meet you. I'd like to be there too, but my scheduling manager's a freaking idiot and my project manager's even worse. (yea, I'm self-employed) |

Sounds like you need to kick your own arse! I hope to catch you another time. I need to make a run at Shady Valley. I think it's gonna be spring before that happens, though. |

Doubt those will work either. By the looks of 'em they look like the bars Gentleman Jon has. He had to have a riser built to fit them, so they didn't hit the "tank" |

Thanx a lot Mel. It took me a couple of weeks to get it all done but I am really pleased with it. It looks stock and a bunch of people don't notice till I tell them. Just like I like my Mods |

Mel, I felt the same way you did about riding 2 up. I went the more expensive route and switched over to a Firebolt tail. I bought the Lightning because I wasn't leaned over all of the time. Poor wrists just can't take it. A way more expensive compromise, but something to consider. Rich |

I did both. Crossroads clipons, and an R tail.
Not a good picture, but you get the idea. |

Now all you need is an R front and your transformation to the dark side will be complete. |
