I have a 2003 xb9r. I got it with 6200 miles on it and it now has about 7800. I also have the race kit installed on the bike. My question is with the fuel map tuning. Most places I go say to adjust it leaner or richer, but which way is which? On ECMspy, my map has blue for low numbers, green for middle numbers, and red for high numbers. Is the higher number the leaner it is? Also, is it possible to smooth my map out inside on my computer or do I have to have it hooked up to the bike while it is running? My bike runs spotty in the 1800-2800 rpm range, and there is a bright red area on my map there.

One more question: My service manual says to run 10R12A plugs. I went to the dealer and asked for those plugs and the parts guy told me that 6R12 is what I should use. Who's right, the manual or the parts guy?

Thanks for any help on these questions and my confusion!

I'm not sure if the ecm spy color codes are different from the dyno at work.
blue= rich
green= good
red= lean

10R12A. and i hate to say this since i am a HD & Buell parts guy, but never trust the parts guy over the manual unless he has proven to you that he is knowledgeable about buells. the manual is not ALWAYS right, but it is alot more right then the uneducated HD person.

ECMSpy red is rich.

I found the easiest way is to do your mods to the map without the bike connected to save the battery, and send the maps across in the garage between test runs. Bigger number is more fuel as it relates the the injector pulse width in milli seconds x a constant.
