I think I'm gonna go with a jardine for my city x. according to the exhaust shoot out it matches up pretty well on the 9's. question is i know it's pretty loud, so i was wondering if anyone has heard one with the quiet insert thing. if so, does it make a noticeable difference? thanks for any relevant info you can provide.

it's not that loud....but the can tends to fall apart....and you lose you muffler as a jack point....i would spend a little extra and get the drummer...
just my 02 cents.

it seems that the biggest reason for them to fall apart is the packing breaking down. when the rivets start to come lose, time to repack. i have considered the drummer, even have a stock muffler off ebay ready to send. i kinda like the looks and sound clips i've heard on the drummer, just haven't heard one with the insert. if i end up hating the jardine i'll get a drummer next spring. hell it's only money, poor people live without it.

I have a Jardine on my City and it's pretty loud without the insert. I don't have any experience with the insert. It's a little too loud for me as is. I'm gonna do something different.

Now you'll forgive me for thread jacking, but I'll sell you mine ( I'd say 9 out of 10 ) condition wise, it's the aluminum polished one, maybe 1800 miles on it, not much more. All the hardware etc. including the chin fairing mount for $150 shipped IF you send me your stock mounting hardware.

Let me know what you think. Just a thought.

thanks for the offer Sticks, but i want to hold on to all my stock stuff. i may go the drummer route in the future, which would require the stock mounting.

i recently did the jardine. i went with the carbon fiber and really like the pipe. so as far as sound its really not that loud until you put on a helmet and for some reason the low end really resonates in the helmet i've started wearing earplugs on longer rides . i don't want the insert because you do sacrifice power when its in. if you do go with the pipe throw out the header to muffler clamp jardine supplies(its a piece of junk) and use the stock one and be ready to do slight mods to the chin brackets they are close but not perfect. any other ?'s let me know

I have a jardine on my 12s. When i first ordered it i got nervous about the loudness so i also asked around about the insert. After it was on and i rode it i didnt feel as though it was all that loud actually. Like anything else in life you will have to decide if its too loud for you.

i ordered the jardine off ebay, went ahead and got the insert. it's easy to install and remove, so i guess i can change up the note based on my mood and what i'm doing.

I was leaning towards a Jardine until I heard one "live" and thought the note was too sharp. And too loud as a result. I bought a Drummer instead and its deep rumble is perfect.

After 3 years of abuse my muffler just came apart last week.

$28.00 for some Fiberglass packing, $10.00 for some new rivits and I am good to go again.

I was going to tig it solid instead of using rivits till I noticed the body is aluminum and the ends are stainless.

I also think once the clamp/gasket gets worn, The muffler gets movement and beats the rivits into submission....

Just make sure your ear-plugs are all the way in and sealed or your head will be rattling.

The quiet insert totally kills power and makes it weaker than stock by quite a bit. Someone on this board made their own with a bigger opening which probably worked well as a compromise. You could always get the Jardine insert bored out.

Dude, do a search. It's ridiculous how much Jardine info there is on this board.

Here is a rundown:
- Some times it fits perfectly, sometimes it doesn't mount without serious modding.
- Some people have exhaust leaks at the collector, some don't.
- Some people love the sound, some people think it's oppressive.
- Get the insert if you want, but it seriously decreases power and is a pain to put in and take out.
- Everyone needs to repack in time or the can rattles itself to death.
- Remove the sticker immediately, or get pissed later when it cooks itself and scars the can.
- Keep an eye on the chin fairing bracket. They sometimes come apart. (I never mounted it, because I don't have a chin fairing anyway.)

Did I forget anything?

I for one, wished I would have spent more money on a system that was put together better so I don't have to worry about all that.
