Are the clutch cables for the '03 9R and 9S the same? Or actually from any year XB 9 or 12 to fit an '03 9R. I need to order a new one. Also, the local HD shop says my starter has a short and it caused my clutch cable to weld. I had no problem with the starter or clutch before I brought it into the shop, but now it's all messed up. So instead of giving those idiots $800 for a repair I originally didn't need, I'm taking my bike somewhere else. Is this a real problem? Can the starter cause the clutch cable to melt? It sure is f**ked up now. Are there other alternatives for the OEM cable? | ||

Are the clutch cables for the '03 9R and 9S the same? No, different length, R model has metal keeper at the lever end and is slightly shorter. Weld the clutch cable? Its a real stretch to believe that one. The way I see it, the only way that could happen is if the cable and sheath were at different potential, and I can't see how that might happen. Alternatives to OEM cable? Hydraulic clutch is one ( http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9154.html ). Not sure if Barnett or Motion Pro have aftermarket cables for the XB series. I've seen some quality problems with some aftermarket clutch cables, so I've been carrying the OEM cables for normal black sheath, and only using the aftermarket for stainless braided cables. Other than having too delicate an end fitting at the primary (which all seem to have, unfortunately), the OEM cable is pretty good. Al} |
