Anyone have any experience or feedback on this type of tire. I'm not entirely pleased with the way the rear Scorpion is wearing. Getting pretty thin in the middle (4500 miles) but lots of tread on the outer edges. (don't tell me to take more turns or corner tighter either) I had the same tire on the XB9SX and at 8500 miles it still had lots of middle tread life left. It seems to wearing differently on the Uly. |

I think the Uly is heavier and has more torque and therefore causes greater tire wear. I have had great success with the Avon Storms. The outer rubber is sticky and the center extended the wear by 1,000 miles. The Uly just wears out tires. Period. If you are bigger and ride more aggressively, it wears out tires even faster. |

I got over 8000 miles on a Pirelli Strada rear tire. |

I don't think I've ever gotten 8,000 miles on even a front tire- have about 6k on the front tire on my zx10r and I've mean meaning to change both of it's tires for a while now. I do like braking hard almost as much as accelerating though. And they do tend to be full sport tires... In the flatland we do get to use less of the sides, no camber in the roads except on highway ramps that are filled with oil, debris and lined in concrete. So that's out. Ft B, what is your mileage with the Storms? I had been getting 8000+ with the Avon Azaros but they are getting hard to find, maybe even dropped in favor of the Storms. I just put a Storm on the rear of S3 as a test as I have a probable 8000 mile trip on the Uly next May. |

Location, Location, Location - The roads and temperatures make a huge difference. Aydenxb9 got 3000 miles on a Metzler M1 rear tires here in Eastern NC. He moved to Indiana and instantly got better mileage even though the bike and rider was the same. He got 5000 miles out of a sport bike rear on an XB9S. As for me, I have 10,500 miles on a Strada front tire and got 5000 on the first rear. That is the best I have gotten on the Uly so far. The D616 got lower 4000 miles, the Sport Attacks got 2600 miles. I have Avon AV45/AV46 on the M2, but I do not have enough mileage on them to tell how they will wear. |

Unibear, I got about 3,500 to 4,000 on the Azaros. With the Storms I could get about 5,000 miles. The problem I had was that I ran March Badness and Memorial Day weekend in North Georgia on them. They were cooked quickly. The roads were rough. My normal roads around the house are very rough. I like throttle. I'm not tiny. Rubber doesn't last long. Normal people who ride better roads and like Little Debbies less would be able to get 8,000 from them. Mine looked like this after Memorial Day:

Unibear, If I may chime in about the Avons. The Azaro's I had on lasted 8500 on the rear and had plenty left on the front. Both were replaced with Storm's as that is the replacement tire for the discontinued Azaro. So far I have 6000 on the tires and the back is still 2/32 above the wear bars which should equate to another 2-3K if I behave. The front is doing fine but beginning to cup/feather on the extreme outer edge near the sidewall/tread joint ( due to some very hard mountain riding last week, but not blistered as F/B's ). I will be putting the Storms back on as soon as the tires are completely done. Hope this helps with your question. |

I will need a new rear in about...now but would like to not spend the cash for a new front until early next year. Do you all think it will be OK to use the stock 06 front with a Avon Storms rear? Thanks, Horr |

To contribute to the conversation, I have Michelin Pilot Road tires on my 06 Uly. I have a little over 7k on the front and back. The front look new with only minimal wear of the beads and the rear has been flattened in the middle from the original radius. The rear still has a lot of tread left on it. I put the tires on prior to doing two back to back trips this year. The first 3600 miles and second was 1200 miles. I have been commuting on the bike since I have been back. Both of the aforementioned trips were with fully loaded saddle bags, Tbag on top with a tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag and tank bag on the bike. I am 5'11 and weigh in at 265. I ride the piss out of my bike and my tires looked like FtB rear tire on several occasion while touring MT and WY fully loaded. Hell I even scraped my boots going through several turns do to me looking at the scenery and entering the turn to fast and just knuckling through it. I do love the Pilot Roads. For contrast, I first noticed these tire on a fellow xb riders bike a xb12 that was really modified and he was rather tall and heavy. He claimed to get 9k out of the rear and changed the front just to keep them both in check. I am well on my way to 9k with mine with no worries.

I got less mileage (approx 5,000) from the Storm rear than from the Azaro (approx 8,000). Seems contrary to others, but them's the facts. |

-o-dus, I wouldn't hesitate to use a Storm Rear with the Azaro front. The tread pattern is almost identical, so water siping will be unchanged. The only potential risk would be that you might have less traction on the front than the rear because of the stickier outer rubber and might tuck the front. I doubt you would be riding that hard. I put the Azaro back on after the Storm died and ran it with the Storm front for another 1,000 miles or so with no problems. |

Wow... you guys are getting some phenomenal mileage out of your tires (8,000 ). I just replaced my rear (616) and only got 2800 miles out of the thing. About 3200 on the one before that. I just put a set of dual compound Bridgestone BT-021's on. Can't really comment on their durability as I only have 90 miles or so on them. Crossing my fingers. |

I wondered how people are getting these high miles but looking at my rear tire it is hardly worn and I have over 3000 miles, it is a sync. When I first started riding this bike I broke the rear wheel free every time I started for about a month. I make sure i don't do that now. |

Mine never breaks free, but it does get "worked". I think it has a lot to do with rider size and throttle habits. Tiny guys who don't push that hard rarely have mileage problems from their tires. Road surface is the other factor. They pave the roads with recycled porcupines around here. |

Road surface is the other factor. They pave the roads with recycled porcupines around here. I'm just another "little guy"(6',240, always with full bags) and I would never "push that hard"(except for usually when I ride) and I consistently get 6,000 on the rear and as much as 15,000 on a front. These were the same mileage numbers I got on my former City-X. I have found a way to get more miles on a tire though. On a recent 1400 mile trip I made, I ran the way I usually do on the way out. I hit the interstate at around 80+ mph. This tends to melt the rubber in the center and about an inch more on either side. When pulling off to take a break the tread would actually have gooey strips of melted rubber dropping off looking as if I had just pulled in from hot lapping a race track. On the return trip I ran secondary roads never exceeding 60 mph due to circumstances. Even though it was still hot on the road there was no melting of the tread and they showed no roughness on the surface like on Ft_b's tires above. My conclusion is that if you want better mileage out of your tires.....SLOW the F*&% DOWN!!! But we can't do that.....now can we? |

Thanks for the info everybody. I could never get past 2k miles on the Dunlaps that came on the XB12R and I've been getting 5k outa Metzlers on that bike. And a lot more fun. I got about 3k out of the stock rear tire on the Uly (took three months, Dec.05 to Mar.06) and switched to the Azaros to do a 7700 mile trip in May06. No big trips in 07. I feel your pain F.B. At 6'1" and 240 lbs and a "somewhat" spirited rider tires usually don't last long for me either but I can nurse the Avons along for a long trip. Btw unibear got stuck on me when I first got on the Firebolt. "Looks like big Bear with Unicycle stuck up A$$" (Message edited by unibear12r on September 07, 2007) |

I ride the interstates at or above 80, 90 isn't uncommon with the flow of traffic. I am a small sized guy though. 5" 8" 175 lbs heck I might have to start riding it a bit harder now. I'd like to break her free once in a while. |

But we can't do that.....now can we? I do 60 in second gear. I agree. If I put around, my tires will last longer. I think that was MY point, wasn't it? BTW, did you get those brakes fixed yet? |

I have pilot sports on my SV1000, same style tread as the pilot road, and I am considering the roads for my next Uly tire, I think the design of the tread would even do okay on fireroads. |

wow! after reading about some of the mileage you guys are getting out of your tires, I'm sticking with my Dunlops D-616. I had my stock rear tire changed at 10,059 miles while my bike was in for the 10,000 miles service. It really could have gone more but I wanted a new back tire for homecoming this year. I'm still riding my original front Dunlop D-616 and it now has 14,600. I purchased a new Dunlop for the front but I'm not going to put in on until my front has more wear on it. The only trouble I've had with my Dunlops was I ran over a screw at 1000 miles on my rear tire so I plugged it and continued to ride it for another 9000 miles. I guess I'll have to start looking for another D-616 rear tire to buy so when my 20,000 mile service comes due, I'll already have a new back tire, that is if I actually do need to replace it by then. |

10k on a Dunflop D616? You do know that the bike can go over 30mph right? Mine lasted about 5k before the wires were sticking out, had the dealer change it with the 5k service to the Scorpion Syncs. I have about 9k on my Scorpion and I got a bit more life in it, but it will be changed for my 15k service soon because there is no way in hell ill let it will make it to my 20k service |

I'm on my second D616 rear tire. First lasted about 7 grand. The front looks good still but I ran my fingers over it this morning and felt the cupping I'm always reading about from you guys. |

My D616 rear melted on the way to the dealer to have it swapped out. It looked like chewed bubble gum. I got 2,800 miles out of mine. |

10k on the 616 rear is amazing. I only weigh about 170 and got 3500 miles before the stock 616 rear was shot. Replaced with Sync and still has about half life left after 4000 miles. Cannot compare directly, though, as I moved from FL to western NC shortly before buying the Sync. Cooler temps here (usually), but I think the biggest factor is the lack of high speed straight line running in WNC. You can rarely go over 60-70mph for any length of time on any of the roads I ride, and are usually slower than that. Oh yeah, and there are these things here called "corners" that they did not have in FL. I had 2 very bad experiences with Bridgestone 020/021, so I wish better success to anyone who tries them. Bad front cupping on my old Ducati ST2, which went away when I switched to Pirelli Strada or Metzeler sport touring tires. I have yet to have a bad experience with Pirellis (Uly, Duc ST2, KTM SM) or Metzelers (Duc ST2, BMW R1200C), but that could be just coincidence. The road feel on the Pirellis has always been to my liking. |

Wow. If I get 3K out of a rear I consider it a success. The 616's IMO sucked. They put the Uly (my Uly) in to a 'hunt' mode and the front end was constantly searching for it's happy place -- Scorpion's solved that issue. They were slow to warm up and if you were going to ride in the mountains when it was cold they'd kind of leave you wondering when they were going to decide to hook up. Not the tire to use if you were going to the twisty parts. YMMV, G2 |

Had good luck with Pirelli Diablo Strada's.About 5000 miles on the rear of HARD riding.I weigh 185 & never take it easy!I got 2800 miles out of the rear D616 & the front stock tire was cupped & cause head shake by 4000 miles. |

I've got just over 8K on my Strada's and the rear is ready to be changed but the front still has plenty of life left. The front is cupped but I have yet to find a moto tire that doesn't cup... I will replace the rear and keep riding the front which should last until the new rear is wasted. I'm considering trying the new Pilot Road 2's after I finish the Strada's off. I got about 4300 miles out of the rear 616 and the front was good to go, other than the cupping and swimming. The thing that I liked about the 616 was the wet weather traction and quick warm up. The Strada's work well in the wet (which happens a lot in Belgium) but not as confidence inspiring as the 616's. I'm 6"4" and weigh 225 lbs and ride the piss out of the Uly every time I'm out and about. I have done several long trips with the bags fully loaded so I really can't complain about the mileage with the Strada's. (Message edited by Thesmaz on September 11, 2007) |
