I am new to the X1 and I bought a well used bike at a good deal for where I live. Ive made a few other posts and found this forum excellent at giving advice and such. So I have the bike running again after diagnosing and replacing leaking intake seals, and changing the primary cover gasket/ chain tensioner/ oil next thing a did was run the bike (at IDLE) to test my work and heat up the oil so that it could be changed easier. I have an infra red pyrometer and I shot the headers, and I see that after 5-8 minutes of idleing the rear pipe is 175F and the front pipe is 600+. Is this normal? It seems like this be the EFI doing something intentionally to keep the pipe cool. It seems to idle fine by I have zero experience with harley's, what I can say is that it does hold a steady idle wherever set even when cold, and it shakes, allot. Thanks... | ||

This is not normal. The rear cylinder is not firing and your engine is "one lunging". You most likely have a severely fouled spark plug. Replace the plugs and try again. | ||

well the plug doesn't look that fouled, its black but not wet, so I think its firing. time for a compression test | ||

old guys like me usta take the plug wire off....the engine would let you know if it was firein' or not. Steve | ||

What does the front plug look like? And while your looking, switch them. Then see what you get. But keep a new set handy....  Charlie | ||

I realized that I inherited a sandblaster plug cleaner from my grandfather. So the plugs now look clean as new, the gaps where way off, like .5mm when the book says they should be 1mm. havn't statred it yet because I am finishing other projects on the bike, but I will tonight. | ||

Whos' Be sure to chek for grit residue in the plugs it wont take much to do serious damage . |
