I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in it just yet. I am a City Codes Enforcement Officer and we have an ordinance on the books about noise, yeah great and all, but the problem is someone has to follow the violator around or be able to specifically say it was them and prove it with a sound level meter to even write the ticket. I know our small town isn't going to spend that kind of manpower to get $150 from the kid in the diesel pickup showing off for his friends when he's out of sight in 20 seconds. These scare tactics pop up every few years then another violation of choice gets popular and the noise ordinance is forgotten about. Just my $.02. |

The local guys here have dB meters in select (read: one in five or one in ten) units. From what I can tell, they focus on the squirrels - the fart-can imports whacking the throttle at green lights; the drag pipe cruisers doing the same thing; the bad ass punks with the mega-systems in their lowriders. I've cruised down Market Street with my SS2R S1W, set off every other BMW and Escalade alarm just loping along in first at 22mph, and been bypassed for one of the above squirrels. Just a way to quantify the "a$$inine" level of some folks, LOL. I'm sure if I'd whacked it coming off a light once or twice, I'd have met some of them on the shoulder. |
