Still eyeing a Uly and noticed the key location reminds me of my R90s, left side in headlite switch. Then I noticed the power outlet location, upper left facing rider. It also looks like the same diameter hole as the key switch.(?) Just curious if anyone tried to swapped the two? Kinda would like the key easier to reach (could be a deal breaker ) and I'm sure the power outlet will power my radar detector, something I wouldn't remove too often. seriously, no big deal, just curious. |

I would think the steering lock may be an issue. Edit- as in, you would lose the ability to lock the forks. The key location is a little funky, no big deal though and certainly not a good deal breaker. And no key fob flapping around in your peripheral vision is pretty cool too. Might work. Hadn't thought of it. Honestly, the key location has never been a problem. You need it once when you get on, once when you get off. Other than that, I never think of it. I always put the key in and turn it on before I get on the bike. I couldn't imagine it being a deal breaker. |

forgot about the fork lock oh well, might have to think about not getting a free GPS device as the deal breaker now. |

I can't imagine a dealer letting you have a GPS system free for buying the bike...They aren't that desperate to sell Ulys (at least not around here). My local dealer would laugh you off the lot. BMWs might be overpriced enough to allow for dealers to offer $1000 options for free... |

I got the hard bags thrown in for free. At the time they were 1000 option. Now they are even more. |

Do a search on how to fix the cable routing and help with the fork lock and turning tightness. I posted it a while back. Maybe after doing my mod, I could swap the two. Never thought about it. I do notice that my bag key that I keep on the ring with my ignition key always "tinks" off the forks tube while riding and it is a piercing "tink" even over the drummer. I might try this mod when the bike gets back from the dealer because I always hit the horn with my arm if I reach for the key while mounted. I, like EG, got the bags free as part of my deal. |

"I can't imagine a dealer letting you have a GPS system free for buying the bike..." IF I'M GOING TO BUY A $12k NEW BIKE, I BETTER GET SOMETHING FREE, DAMN HAT OR SUMP'EM. personally the appearance of Buell and GIVI bags turns me off, yeah I know how handy they are, I had plenty of beemers with them. I hate tail boxes too. So I'm thinking soft bags for my extended trips and duffel bags. Which BTW if Buell is listening they need to offer a solo seat and a extended rear rack. Anyway, if they can give away bags, surely a GPS is possible. A hat if nothing else. |

Oh yea I've been thinking of a solo seat myself. I ride alone almost always. (Message edited by Bertotti on August 26, 2007) |

How about getting your dealer to committing to guaranteed extraordinary service and dedication to you and your Buell after purchase, at least during the warranty period? Worth more than any freebies... I have two years free service on my bike but there's no way I let those clowns work on my bike anymore. Personally I've always liked the keyswitch location on my R100S and my Uly, I wouldn't think that would kill the deal on an excellent motorcycle. |

The Touratech rack looks good and they have some very nice equipment, thanks I'm thinking of a rack that covers the passenger section of the seat, something similar to what the GS has. The Danish bags look good too but is there a distributer in the USA? These are also a nice set of soft bags, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/288329.html?1186799960 Those bags are the Coretech Sport Tail Bag, $70.00 and the Sport Saddle Bags, $129.99. Probably easier to get than the Danish but thanks for your input. |

Well the deal breaker ended up being a 05 FJR 1300...in Blue of course. I decided to go with a sport tourer with more wind protection and use my Airheads for summer "naked" riding. I think I'll get a Uly sometime but I want to try the Yamaha for now. BTW, I found a great deal on a new 08 Uly at Abernathy's in Union City TN, - $10495.00 plus taxes. Now that's a deal! My FJR was a deal too pick it up tomorrow. |
