i have a question about the crane voltage regulator. is it worth the money? has anyone noticed a difference or is it just another thing to spend money on? i understand what it does well almost but has anyone dyno tested horses? | ||

Voltage regulators are one of the most neglected items on motorcycles. Most bikes don't even have a voltmeter so you don't know when it's failed unless your lights dim or it won't start. As for dyno tested horses you won't notice any increase or decrease in horsepower from one brand to the next. About all you can say about a voltage regulator is that they will eventually fail but I couldn't tell you one way or another if the Crane is superior [in does it last longer]then the stock Buell units. Perhaps you might find the answer in the archives somewhere. | ||

Yes, Aaron did a dyno test with a non shunt regulator versus the shunt factory part. Nothing there to be found in terms of horsepower... and if you look far enough back in the archives I think I ground through some of the math to back up that result. Also, in terms of regulation, you probably won't see a difference. Volts is volts, and both likely regulate as well as necessary. So availability, durability, convenience or appearance would be the remaining decision points. |
