my new set of ebc HH pads for the front of my XB have a little note on them "Note: refit original heat shim to new EBC pads" this not was not on my last set of ebc pads. What is a heat shim? what does it look like? |

Probably the anti-squeal shims that some systems employ. Buell brakes don't use them. |

Buell brakes don't use them Blake, My 06 12R had them on the stock f.pads, refitted to my new Lyndall Gold's with no trouble. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow if you want. |

keeps the heat thats in the pad backing plate from transfering to the pucks-then to the fluid. |

The shims (or insulators) are used to de-couple noise frequencies - i.e. reduce noise. The materials that shims are made from are not typically chosen for resistance to heat. |
