KTM have confirmed that the RC8 Venom will lead their product range for 2008. Styling will be almost identical to the concept bike shown 2 years ago, with its 'Edgy' KTM love it or loath it design. Personally I love it and makes most current bikes look old fashioned. The underbelly exhaust styling is something even Buell could learn from I think. The engine has been increased in size from the prototype 990cc to 1199cc. No power figures have been released yet, but in true KTM fashion I woudl expect it to be class leading. This motor will also power the RC8 sports bike, leading to intense speculation that KTM will enter WSB next year as well. Price in the UK is expected to be GBP9000+ (US$18000), which puts it around GBP600 more than the 1125R which prices here at GBP8495 (US$16990 approx).

What does that mean as far as pricing IN the US? is it going to be 18k over here as well or will it be closer to 13k? Great looking bike though... |

"The underbelly exhaust styling is something even Buell could learn from I think." I think they stole their idea from Dennis Connor's 1988 Stars and Stripes yacht. |

I'd use the pricing of the SuperDuke in the States as a gauge for what they'll charge for that thing. It ain't gonna be cheap. |

You really think that exhaust looks better than Buell's? I think it looks terrible. |

How many people here would pay $17,000 for a motorcycle? I've bought several "pricey" ones over the years but find myself less inclined in my sunset years. . . |

How many people here would pay $17,000 for a motorcycle? Only if it offers lot's of extras that would offset putting those extras on myself. |

Not sure I like the angular lines of that bike--especially for the hefty price tag. |

im pretty sure there are a few in line already...if i hadnt bought something already i would be too...seems like the upper echelon are getting a little mean these days..why diss the KTM for its price...there area great many people out there that are willing to pay a premium for a new and different machine...i just paid a hell of a lot for an 06 CBR bikes aint cheap ya'll....is the 1125R a bad bike...noooo...it could use some esthetic work for sure...is the katoom a bad bike...doubtful...they survived a long time by doing what they do well enough.... it will be interesting to see how they do in their first year of racing as opposed to the XBRR. |

I think the can looks alright on that bike but it would look VERY out of place on the 1125. Even in black. I kinda like the dogbone myself. |

It originally had more bodywork which blended in better with the underslung exhaust, imho I do believe Mr. Buell made a veiled reference to KTM at Homecoming when he made a remark about " origami bikes"

How many people here would pay $17,000 for a motorcycle? Hello..Of course i just spent another $10K on TOP of that in upgrades for my Ducati Superbike. In hindsight though...had i known i'd have just replaced the head gaskets and used the $10k as a down payment on the 1125r. YOU SEE ERIK! You should've leaked! My life centers around two wheels so,eventually the 1125r WILL make it to my stable "I've met the competition, and the competition is me". Who coined that phrase? |

"YOU SEE ERIK! You should've leaked! " if you think about it a bit......Eric / Buell DID leak it....5-6 months BEFORE it will be available! How much time does one need? whatever the amount, it wouldn't be enough for some folks... this timeline worked fine for me...YEAH BABY...XMAS is MINE! |

"if you think about it a bit......Eric / Buell DID leak it....5-6 months BEFORE it will be available!" I don't recall seeing EB's thread on the 1125r 5 months ago? I do remember seeing alot of innuendo and rumors. |

KTM is doing a hell of a good job with their first real street engines and street bikes. Not so sure that Buell needs to be worried as the $$ point is a bit off, but Ducati may be sweating a bit. Wait till they start racing. I hear KTM does an okay job w/their dirtbikes and 250cc roadracers. |

It originally had more bodywork which blended in better with the underslung exhaust, imho The one you refer to is the RC8 and that will also be released in the very near future (again with the 1199cc engine) and will form the basis of the WSB racer methinks Stying is of course very subjective, and KTM have never been scared of ploughing their own furrow in that department. As for racing, KTM have an enviable reputation for entering competition at teh highest level and being competitive in a very short time indeed. Apart from the abortive MotoGP bike (killed by politics as well as finance) they have been very successful in every class they enter. People said that they would never succeed with their parrallel twin 250GP bike and that it would never be competitive against the other V-Twins. 2 years later it is in the leading group every weekend. Price in the US may well be less than the UK/Euro versions, as our price will include all sorts of taxes as usual. The 1125R will cost around US$6K more here than the US market and I would not be surprised if the KTM was not the same. |

Court Posted on Wednesday, August 22, How many people here would pay $17,000 for a motorcycle? Not me. I choked on paying $8500 for my '06 Ulysses. Most expensive bike I've bought to date. And, most likely the last one... |

If I had the $$$ I would buy one. Right after the Uly which would be right after the 1125R *sigh* If wishes were horses I'd have the world's biggest horse ranch |

I do think that exhaust looks uber-clean, much nicer astetically than the Buell 1125R, good looking bike, if not a bit edgy and uncomfortable for a real world rider. I'll still take a Buell any day. --Sean (Message edited by thespive on August 23, 2007) |

"I do believe Mr. Buell made a veiled reference to KTM at Homecoming when he made a remark about " origami bikes" ") Yes he did. And I agreed. It looks like KTM's designer lost his pencil so he just folded the paper into the general shape of a motorcycle. (Message edited by hishers on August 23, 2007) |

That KTM is awesome. I think it looks great. I'd guess that it will be priced to compete in the US, somewhere between the Buell and the Ducati. Motorcycle prices are much higher in the UK accross the board. Buell does have some serious competition for the first time. Buell is now playing with the big boys. I'm excited to see a "no excuses" Buell that will romp with the fast bikes. I can't wait for the forthcoming reviews. |
