Hey guys I need to get a set of side cases for my Uly and right now it is down to the Hepco & Becker Journey Sidecases: (Which are what Buell sells for the Uly) http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade...tview/636/4 74/ Or the Givi E360's http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3 3/69/ I hear good things about Hepco & Becker but am unfamiliar with these specific Givi cases. The Givis are cheaper. I want a good amount a room and the 2 seem about the same size? Any recommendations or thoughts? Any other brands I should be considering? Anyone have pics of the Givi's on the Uly? I am not looking for boxy utilitarian boxes even though I probably should be, but what can I say I want the Uly to look good. Cheers! Chris | ||

i don't have pics of mine, but for the money and quality you can't go wrong with Givi. you might consider the E45 instead of the 360 - more room (45 liters) and cheaper than the 360. | ||

Hey Curly, do the Givi's look pretty good on there? I think the stock Buell Uly cases look pretty good and look like they fit the bike. I just didn't want to get a bag setup that was ill fitting and didn't look like they were made for that bike. It's kinda like when you see someone put a camper shell on a truck that was made for a different truck and it looks odd. Like a full size Chevy shell on a little Nissan. Hopefully that makes sense. I'll check out the E45's. How far out do the E45's stick out? Do they stick out further then handlebars? | ||

If you're willing to spend a bit more, the Givi E41's are excellent. I have a set waiting to go on whatever my next bike will be (probably a Uly!). Previously I used them for ~8000 miles on a VFR. I like the stock cases but I ended up buying a used set of Gobis for mine. I like the top-load setup much better and you can close and latch the cases without having to lock them. This makes it easier for me to grab a drink from one without getting off the bike at gas stops. That being said, I am seriously considering selling my setup to buy a set of Caribou Cases. | ||

Hey CityXSlicker, your bike is the business!! Those caribou cases seem like a pretty good deal. Do you have to use the Caribou sideracks for those? Those Gobis look nice as well. Not necessarily the look I was going for but probably the most practical of the bunch. Those Givi41's look great too. I can see how that little hatch would be very handy and is probably worth the extra cost.. Hmmmm, I guess I have a decision to make. I am trying to keep as cheap as possible but still get a good product. i'll have to sleep on this one. Thanks for the feedback everyone. | ||

Hey Solo. What kind of mounting rack do the Gobi's use? If I decide to get a Uly, I was really looking at topping off with a set of Gobi's. They have the weight savings of plastic, but you can top load like metal cases. Have any pics. I'd love to see them. Thanks | ||

button, the e45's do stick out farther than the bars. however they swallow a whole lot of stuff and when you are a week out on the road you want as much room as possible. remember the key here is function over form that's why we bought buells in the first place  | ||

I had the 360s on my VFR and FZ1, seem to pack better than the Buell bags and the latch is pretty hardcore. I could get two fullface helmets in a 360 sidecase, forget it with the Buell stuff. That being said the hepco bags do look good on the bike! I used to call my FZ1 with the 360s "Princess Leia" Cityx, sweet bike and the bags look good too! | ||

Button, You are aware of the latch issue? I totally love my stock bags. As noted above, they look fantastic on the Uly. They hold a ton of stuff. But I've heard so many horror stories here and at advrider.com about the latches breaking that I just baby the crap out of them. So far so good - but it seems out of character with the rest of the bike to have to be so careful about one flimsy component - doesn't it? And that is the thing, the latches do actually feel pretty flimsy. I carry a set of bungies with me whenever I tour with the Uly - just in case the latches break. Just like I do with my 25 year old airhead... touring on a 25 year old bike one expects to have an issue now and then, but a six month old Uly? Pathetic! | ||

For me the Buell top box just makes the bike look off. Actually I don't like the looks of Cases on the XB12X, just doesn't seem right to me. I have just fitted the top box, swapped it for a seat, and think it really spoils the bike, I'm expecting it to really effect handling in cross winds as well. I could accept the poor looks if the bike looked OK with the boxes removed, but alas the mounting frames look like some thing a farmer would knock up in his shed. So for me it's a toss up between practicality and looks, when I need to carry the Box gets mounted, otherwise it's off. | ||

Bails, Yep. The top box totally spoils the look. If we wanted Goldwings we would have just bought Goldwings. I'd like to rig up (or purchase) some kind of easily detachable rear-rack so I could strap a few things to the back and still leave room for a pillion. As is with a passenger, the side cases are pretty much totally full with tent, sleeping bags, therma-rests and few extra clothes. No room for rain gear or cold weather gear - which will present a problem for late autumn camping... I do plan to experiment with strapping some light weight stuff to the back of the beaver tail (in its upright position). | ||

Actually the beaver tail will take a full pack, I put my rack bag on and it works a treat.Noticed today whilst at the dealer there is a big carry bag made by Buell to go over the beaver tail. The Top box rack will also do to carry a duffel style bag,for bush touring, so when I don't want the Box I'll use the rack to carry a bag. | ||

I bought the Buell luggage with my bike. The Gobis fit right on to the Buell racks.  | ||

Hey Campjo, are those the the Givi E360s? Do you have a full sideshot with the bags on? Those don't look to shabby. They sit back a lot farther then the Buell H&P side bags. Thanks, Atoms for the heads up about the latches. I have read about the problems with them. | ||

 Yea, there the 360's. I am pretty impressed with them. I did not have to relocate the rear turn signals like the directions showed. | ||

Wow how is that for service!!! Thanks Campjo I really appreciate it!! I was leary to buy them without seeing them on a Uly. Can you fit a fullface helmet in one of the sidebags? Also if later I wanted to get a top hard bag do I need to get a separate mounting rack? You might just have made my decision. | ||

Yes you can fit a full face helmet. I can fit a med + lg shoei in one bag. There is a separate rack for the top hard bag. I think the 360's really give the stock case a run for their money as far as looks. Like many though I think luggage spoils the looks but it sure does come in handy. Right now I am just using the Ventura bag I got from at American Sport Bike. It hold alot for a soft bag and is rainproof. Been tested in a 4 hour downpour. No my bearing have not gone bad yet. | ||

They both look good to me. There have been a lot of reports here and on advrider.com about the stock bags surviving a slide or tipover with only scratches and thus sparing much of the rest of the bike and in some cases the rider from further damage. I wonder how well the 360s hold up in those situations? | ||

Is it my imagination or the angle of the pictures but the 360s seem to stick out a good 3-4" farther than the Hepco-Becker bags. | ||

I can tell you that the E41's hold up quite well and I'd expect the 360's to do even better as they don't have a hole in the lid for the extra door. I lowsided my old VFR with the E41's. The lid was scuffed, but it stayed intact and held the rear portion of the bike off the ground. I ordered a replacement lid from Twisted Throttle and the bag was like new again. The bike took a bit more work to fix, but much less than would have been necessary if I hadn't had the Givi's mounted. | ||

I am holding out hope that Buell sells enough Uly's that we can get the quick release racks for our bikes. Then we will be able to use any of the bags mentioned above plus remove the racks in seconds when we have the bags off the bikes. | ||
