well , in mountain road where I live and where I believe that all the bike have to stay at buell rules ..
this is what happen a R6 2007 model start to push at 10.000> rpm so or you are a very very good driver that keep the bike on very high rev in all the corner or when you finish the corner you get to down 1 or 2 gear to get enough power to leave the corner in the right way ..
whit buell you enter at 4000 rpm and in the same gear you get all the torque to exit from the corner like a bullet ..
and every time you get 30 -40 mt more than a r6 ...
of course if you meet a very good driver ( I think 1 on 1000 that you meet .) is hard .
but I think with jap bike to bee fast as with buell in very close corner road like this
you have to bet your life every corner!

The XB12R has buckets more torque than an average IL4 600 Sports bike, but would still get thrashed on most race tracks (and decent roads) by any R6/CBR600RR or GSXR600.

Torque is not the universal panacaea that some people think it is. Think of it in its simplest terms:

BHP is top speed, Torque is how fast you get there.

You can have huge torque figures combined with low top speeds (take any Harley for example), and there are a massive number of other factors to take into consideration such as weight, aerodynamics, suspension/chassis, track/road type and of course basic rider skill.

Most 600 sports bikes have a top speed of at least 20mph MORE than the current Buells, even though they have far less torque and not much more BHP, so having more torque won't make a lot of diference in a head to head race.

At the end of the day, if you are happy to leave your bike stock then fine, but if you want to improve performance then you can be sure that the options will be available.

Actually, the main reason an I4 is faster than a Buell is because it revs 4000+ rpm higher. Ditto a Duc. If you could gear the Buell to compensate [you can't], you would get a different result.

My track day toy for a few years was a much tweaked S1 which produced 114 ft. lbs. and 116 hp at the RW. [Thank you J.E.T.]. On a technical track such as Louden, or the 'Glen, it had no difficulty staying in front of or passing anything else. On the Pocono Formula USA circuit, it would get run down on the long tunnel turn straight as I couldn't gear for more than 145 or so and the Jap litre-bikes could get 160+. But, I would pull right back up to them in the infield. Torque = pull off the corners; also drivability. You can carry good corner speed if you have a flat, predictable power delivery. And the torque will accelerate you off the corner faster while the high-rpm/high HP motor is spinning up to its peak hp. Again, albeit it is an extreme example, watch the Audi P1 diesel obliterate every other higher HP P1 on the track exiting the corners.

of course in track is obviusly fast a 600 c.c. but when you have straight of maximum 60 mt. you can say hallo to your rev and your HP .. in this conditions is handling and torque that make difference pilot also .
but my experience is that people that comes on buell learn in very few time to be quickly, running in save condition ..
how many bikes permit to you to tuch the footpeg in a 1 gear 360 corner? and help you to exit like a bullet from the corner only giving a small open at throttle ?
this is the buell strong , why I have to compete in straight ?
what I think is that with 1125 the point of strong of xb handling and torque are been improved , and the 10.500 rev with 146 HP , give to them all the necessary to be the best sportbike of ever on road. ( especially considering that japan bike (i put in this category also MV augusta) are in the last 3 years , became not usable on road and the true refeerement are 999, 1098, and RSV 1000)

in road use only (I'm just speak about it ) at 100% you get more power than needed .

I'm resisting another treatise here, as we all agree on the concept, we are just muddying the terms. Here is where I am now at on the topic...

* High horsepower at all RPM's is a really good thing : )

* Some people call this "torque", and they are wrong in mathematical terms, but that's not important, and we know what they mean, so we won't be a jerk about it.

* Riding a KLR 250 for a while (17 RWHP) makes my XB9SX suddenly feel like a Hayabusa.
