Hello all, I'm active Navy, moved to Boston in January and I'm currently bikeless (just sold my FZR). Anyway, I'm planning on buying a used XB9s or 12s before the end of the year (reenlistment bonus). I was wondering what I should look out for on the XB's when buying used other than normal wear. Also, if I go with an 03 XB9 should I plan on the belt/pulley conversion for the newer belts? I'm 6'3" and about 220 if that matters. I've been in the closet for about 2 years and I'm ready to come out and tell the world I love Buells. I might need some encouragement but it looks like I've come to the right place. |

Welcome. You're gonna love Buell! Most of the guys only read the day-to-day stuff at the bottom of the forum, so I took the liberty of reposting your questions there where it won't be missed. Within the group we've got some outstanding wrenches who can take care of pretty much anything you need; tire changes, the necessary TPS reset, and periodic maintenance. It's been discovered that the HD-Buell dealerships are, well, not very nice to our bikes so we handle our own maintenance. We ride just about every Sunday through CT, RI, and MA, so keep your eye on the forum if you have an empty weekend. |

First:a good way to tell if it is a good bike is the size up the owner. If the guy is a massive tool and/or the tire is bald in the middle , don't buy it. Second: buy one of us a beer to look at the bike for you. |

I'm sorry I forgot to add the beer part, if I get a bike through yalls help you can count on more than one. I will definitley be pickey once I start shopping around. It's gonna be hard though because of the lack of selection when it comes to used Buells on top of my price cap. Maybe I'll get lucky though. |

What's up Jack....... Not knowing when your gonna spring for a Buell but if you need a hand looking just let me know. I will be out of work for a month or so starting tomorrow. If you happen to see one that you like in that timeframe then I'll be more than happy to look at it with you. What are you looking for?? What is your price range? When are you looking to buy? |

I'm shooting for mid november time frame. I know it's a way off but if I start reading up now I should be prepared for all maintenance and such. Besides, I'm addicted and I can't stop reading about the bikes. Only reason I'm waiting until then is due to my reenlistment bonus around that time. I'd really like a 05 XB9 City X but my price cap will probably be between $4 and $5K so that brings me closer to a 03 XB9S. I don't like the firebolts at all. Of course if I found a decent 04 XB12S I wouldn't say no either. I'm not to picky as long as it's a S and in my price range. I'll be lurking here until then though and I'm sure when that money starts burning a hole in my pocket I'll start bugging all of you for assistance (paid in barley water of course). |

Yeah, I've heard nothing but good things about the roads up north and west of Boston. I can't wait. When I was stationed in San Diego I managed to ride about 13000 miles between April and November last year (due to awesome roads, Mt. Palomar). Hopen to do the same in 08 out here. |

For that kind of cash you DEFINATELY can get the bike you want. A 2003 buell I would not pay a penny more than 3500.00 TOPS!!!! They have belt issues and some othe quirks.... I got my bike new in 2004 for 7800 out the door, But I am a MO-FO to deal with when it comes to stealerships and I beat them dogs down to nothing. I really dispise them for obvious reasons.... Ask when you are ready and we will beat them/others down for ya too!!! I personally would Go Private tho.....DEALERSHIPS are.....well .....Legal Thieves.... Check in the Classifides, Sometimes you can score a decent deal from there. Egay is another spot. |

Firebolteric MA Once in a great while I come across a 05 XB9 CityX around my price range but it is tricky and I don't know about traveling a long distance on a bike in the winter. Although there is one for sale in NH on cycletrader (04 XB12S) for $5500 right now and it's been there for a while. That would be nice but we'll see. I still have almost a month before I get my reenlistment bonus so I'm still waiting. It's just the money thing right now and I gotta pay cash due to crumby credit. Wife says go, credit says no. So here I sit daily and dream on BADWEB. I'll be riding with yall by spring though even if I have to sell one of the kids......just kidding.....seriously though, who wants to buy a kid? |

That would be my bike! I've had it for sale for a long time because I really couldn't decide whether to sell or not. Well, I should be getting orders to VA in a short while and am planning on buying a house. YES, ITS FOR SALE!! I have an interested buyer coming today to look at it, but we'll see. It doesn't look like the picture in cycle trader any more because I fabbed a tail eliminator, shortened the turn signals, polished the headers, added sliders, frame pucks, and removed the decals. It looks awesome! Check the NH thunder forum for pictures of my bike, some are with Scott_in_nh. I have posts all over here with pictures, in fact, I'll post one right now. D.

Damn, good luck with the sale. If by chance it's still available later I'll be knocking but a bike that nice isn't expected to last this long. I take it your military? I'm navy(almost 10 years now) Good luck. |

Yes, military. The guy looked at it, really liked it, but I think because I have frame pucks on it, he thinks it was down. Whatever, his loss! I had another guy who wouldn't budge $200 to take the bike. Again, his major loss for a measly 200 bucks. I wouldn't budge either, but it was mainly for principle of the situation. |

Sorry to hear all that Cgocifer. That really sucks. I'm still waiting to hear about my bonus. I reenlist on the 29th and with the new fiscal year starting this month (few weeks ago) the SRB desk hasn't recieved the money for bonuses and they are telling everyone to push back there reenlistments. I can't though cause my last day in is the 29th. Talk about a fiasco. It'll all work out in the end though, it always does. Good luck again and hopefully I'll be able to help in a couple weeks. |
