I'm going to assume that if the demand builds then dealerships will begin charging an over MSRP premium for their allocations, same game as before only applied to Buells instead of Harleys. Just a hunch. My response to that is: Moldy Forkers and Cork Soakers! Anybody remember that character in 'Johnny Dangerously'? |

LOL, for some reason I just got the image of a Harely dealer doing his "treatment" to a Buell. "You don't want that stock 1125R. Let me show you this one." "We took a stock 1125R chromed the frame, swingarm and wheels. It's got billet footpegs and levers, custom chrome flame grips, and candy red real-flame paint job. We took the stock exhaust and replaced it with straight chrome pipes, man is this thing loud now! And what was really tricky was getting these chrome case covers for the engine. You get all this for just $27,000. It's a steal!" |

The 1125R is going to give me some complexity relief in my own garage. I looked into my crystal ball and see the Helicon engine dominating nearly all of Buell's platforms in 3-5 years...based on demand. It only makes sense... |

chrome is so heavy. If you want the Silverdale version of the bike for 27grand then you will have to get one new 1125r and choose a riding stable partner for it from the remaining Buell line up. Bike will be in in November. The line starts _________X Here! Come get them while I got them. |

"I looked into my crystal ball and see the Helicon engine dominating nearly all of Buell's platforms in 3-5 years...based on demand. It only makes sense..." Only if Harley allows it. The only way I see a Rotax motor in all the platforms is if HD sells Buell or buys Bombardier. |

"The only way I see a Rotax motor in all the platforms is if HD sells Buell or buys Bombardier." What is HDI's combined total net worth and annual gross profits or sales compared to Bombardier's? Kind of convoluted to track down all the subsidiary relationships and add it all up without an inside track to some good financial tools (and I'm way rusty in that field). Bottom line is I suspect that there is a greater chance of Bombardier corporate buying out HDI than there is of HDI buying out just the motorcycle engine division of Bombardier. |

The only way I see a Rotax motor in all the platforms is if HD sells Buell or buys Bombardier. I did say "nearly" all platforms. But the larger issue is that there is a misconception that the 1225R has a "Rotax motor"} in it. According to the stuff I have read about it, the Helicon is a spec engine designed by Buell in conjunction with Rotax (not unlike the V-rod, I take it), and built by Rotax for Buell, and Buell only. It is a unique engine design that will only be used in Buells, UNLIKE the V-rod, which is being marketed out to another bike manufacturer. |

A Thunderstorm motor is a HD like a Rotax is a Bombardier. You won't find that motor in another product. No matter how you slice it, the Helicon is a non-HD product. There's alot of private labeling done by big companies. Motor companies are no different. I believe HD made motors for other folks in the past (and maybe the present) as well. |

If the projected 4-6 1125Rs per dealership is correct, then I expect the small supply and increased floor traffic will give the whole Buell line a boost. But I dunno...the line may lose some of the mystique of the Harley motor and tradition. Wonder how different this bike will sound? |

personally, i am more interested in the Buell mystique than the Harley effect. this bike is just what Buell needs to attract consumer interest and more press coverage. i am looking forward to picking mine up. it will sound like a Buell 1125R!! tim |

"if they had this when i bought my xb, i still would have bought the xb i wanted a harley based bike and that is why i bought buell if buell didnt have the harley motor i would have bought ducati" My sentiment exactly. I understand the need for increased tech, but wasn't Buell already leading in that dept in alot of ways? Why didn't Harley allow Buell to keep advancing with an American Harley motor? CHA-CHING! They didn't want to spend the cash. To me that's not advancement, its taking the easy way out. Believe it or not, my hat's off to the folks at Buell for providing us with the best they could. I hear that the Rotax will indeed be the motor of the next generation of Buell bikes, if that's the case, looks like its time to try Ducati or Triumph. Alot of folks want an American product. IMO, an Austrian made motor isn't American. |

Realize it or not, your supporting an American company even though they use a Rotax motor. Buell employs Americans to design, produce, and sell their products. That's a success in my book and they'll continue to get my voting dollars. The world is a much smaller place and economies are very global; meaning that items are a mix-match of many countries. It's a reality of survival due to basic economics. Buell is a very "tech-ish" bike, which is why I have one in my garage. Having said that, air-cooled motors are not leading edge technology..........they're an icon of the 20th century. |

So who says it had to stay air-cooled? Harley could have developed that motor the same way they developed cuurent motors and the VR. Harley is an American company, they pride themseves on being just that, to me they don't care about Buell being American made. That "icon" is making Harley and Buell some serious money. But in order for them to stay in the money, they're going to have to find ways to stay ahead of the game. The 1125 wouldhave been an excellent way to stretch past the Evolution motor. |

Right, Buell has an American motorcycle designed by Americans, tested by Americans, funded by Americans, built with tons of American made parts, and assembled in America. But because Buell sources the new engine, which they spec'ed and co-designed in America, from a North American owned company with a division in Austria, you would rather buy a 100% import? Words cannot describe how retarded that is. |

you guys are missing the point alot of us wanted a "harley" but dont like choppers, so we bought buell, which is a hd sportbike buell is my harley if buell had its own shops and was not part of harley and had this rotax motor and then harley had the xb (hd firebolt or lightning) i would have bought the hd-xb and so would have all of you (proof is in what you ride right now) you could of had any other faster sportbike, but you choose the slow outdated hd motored xb this new bike is not harley, its like every other sport bike out there maybe harley should just add a couple sportbikes to its line and then buell can go do its thing maybe harley should use the xbrr and build a bike for us who still want a harley do get me wrong, i love my buell |

You were doing fine until you hit this snag:
quote:its like every other sport bike out there
Harley-Davidson would be "challenged" to execute the XBRR. It requires more "mobile, agile and hostile" thinking than is allowed in their business model. Not bad, just fact. I do, as the owner of 9 Harley-Davidsons over the years, understand what you are saying. But, Buell standing dormant in deference to HD "tradition" is as wise as it was for Indian to think folks would buy into "tradition" absent a product of value. Court |

The indisputable fact is, BMC exists because of an American. How many American dreams actually come all the way to fruition anymore and turn out as freaking cool as this one? Don't sweat the petty... |

the effect on XB sales...... I definitely feel that the sales will increase on all platforms. The new power plant will invoke interest from other people. At the same time i think there is a loyal following to the XB bikes. I do however think it is the BMC mentality that sells their bikes. The first time I heard a guy talking about his buell I wanted to learn about BMC. He was in love with his bike and the company that made it. There was passion in his voice when he spoke of his "tuber" and the journey he has had making it his own. To alot of people this sounds weird..but most of them do not ride a buell. While the Rice bikes have their merits you dont get on a cbr or gsxr and have this amazing story about the company and about the bike. So with that said... the 1125 will bring more audience to the show and by default more exposure to all the bikes at BMC. exposure=sales (just look at Paris) ps not that i am comparing the 1125 to Paris H. |

Well, if you don't like that "foreign" Rotax motor, there's always this bike: http://www.bigtwinracers.com/index.htm But you have to build it yourself. |
