There is certainly a lot of buzz going on around here concerning the new 1125R.

I just dropped a 1000.00 deposit on one and while at the Harley Shop a few things came to mind.

This is even less a Harley than the last models were. No more Harley drivetrain. With that said, I'm a little more skeptical about the dealership working on my bike. To go from a cruiser to fixing on an 1125R can't be without compromise. I've had Techs scratching their heads at the Firebolt. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't have time, or the technical know how to fix my bike.

I'm sure the dealerships that still support the Buell line will get their techs trained and certified. We have several Master Techs who are Buell enthusiasts as well and the GM is excited about the bike, so we should do fine. The bike does have a six speed with helical gears and belt drive similar to the Harleys. The Vrod is water cooled with shim and bucket valve adjustment. The suspension components and much of the hardware is familiar and all of our guys can and do read the manuals. We also have several techs who have japanese/euro experience.
That with the excellent HD university classes provided by the factory should make us just fine. Any other dealer that is committed to the line has access to most of the same resources .

I also put a deposit down and am VERY CONCERNED with the lack of Buell mechanics. I brought my xb9r into the Miami shop and they said their ONE BUELL TECH was sick and I had to wait for him to come back to work to service my bike---not good. I hope the FT. Laud. dealers are a little more concerned with getting the techs up to speed.

You will be glad to know that Buell started developing the training program well ahead of the release and has a special first year "infant care" program in place.

This is not the first "new" product the tech folks at Harley-Davidson have been involved with in the last 105 years. Many elements from the VROD intro tech support will likely be evident.

The good Buell dealers will still be good
The bad Buell dealers will still suck
The new bike will probably cause the border line dealers to get with the program.
Choose your dealer wisely

Snack,
you are in GA, you can't be that far from Stone Mountain? If I lived in GA, that is where I'd be doing my Buell business.

....let's hope not!

I know we're already scheduling schools for both front- and back-office folks on the 1125. I'm sure the training program is/will be in place...I just hope the dealers take advantage of it. That's what'll make sure the first sentence above ends up being false : )

"I'm sure the dealerships that still support the Buell line will get their techs trained and certified."

BaaaaaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The dealer where I bought my bike has NO Buell techs on staff. If you search a few of my posts I think that that will be quite evident. When queried on this, the service manager's response was; "Oh, he's worked on lots of them." This was a half an hour before my Uly's kickstand failed in the middle of the service bay with 4 techs standing around it. If I were contemplating the purchase of a 1125R the service, or lack there of, it's self would keep me from laying down my cash. This is JMHO of course but the booger-miner/chrome installers at most HD dealerships would have nightmares about that Rotax engine. And the ones who didn't would be even more scary!

I was told recently by the service manager (I think?) where I bought my 12R that they have too much work and can't help me on a Saturday over the other guys in front of me! I didn't ask for major work, just to take a quick look. I don't even remember exactly all that he told me, as his attitude just irked me! All I wanted was some consideration as I bought the bike there cash and I am (was) planning to buy the 1125r there this year, but so is life.

Can't blame him for preferring to take "chrome cows" over "cheaper" bikes like Buells, can I? If now they don't have enough Buell techs, what is going to happen when this new bike arrives? Very scary in my opinion...

There are good and bad dealers of all brands. I've seen Honda shops that were really good (I worked in one many years ago), and I've seen honda shops that flat sucked. I've seen good and bad H-D shops. The best dealership I know of sells BMWs and Moto Guzzis., but I've seen some really crappy work come out of both BMW and Guzzi shops.
Not all H-D dealerships have poor techs. Not all Honda shops have poor techs. Some shops are good; some suck. Choose you dealer with care, and you'll have a happier ownership experience.

If your in the SOUTH GA area... I can VOUCH for TIFTON GA. Harley Davidson/Buell

They are VERY eager to work on BUELLS. The owners ALSO own Albany Ga Harley Davidson (LITTLE RIVER HD).

They have my business for NOW on. They even made contact with me days after I picked it up to make sure it was doing good.

NOW.. THAT is service.

Matt.

I've been reading over on a Harley enthusiasts/owners forum where some people don't trust their dealership to work on their Harley. Bad is bad, and good is good, regardless of the brand/model bike in question. As noted above, find a good shop.

You mean Flint River? I went there with my dad a few years ago for a demo ride just to get some sling bags. I remember the salesman, Ashley Darley, encouraged me to rail some corners do some wheelies on the demo XB9S. He gave a sling bag to my dad even though he just sat outside and smoked a cigar... his legs wouldn't bend enough so he said to hell with the demo.

We had a hell of a meal after the demo ride. We walked next door... I don't think my dad had ever been to a Hooters before. He liked it.

very true on the good and bad dealerships are not a brand specific thing...up here in washington the other brand dealers arent any better and in actuality a lot worse than the harley dealers....this is the second time ive went looking for a sportbike and had to endure people that either didnt know squat or were so apathetic it bordered on antagonistic...i literally went into a kawi dealership and said i want that one...the girl looked at me and said well can u come back tomorrow...um nooooo...she gave me a flyer for the 05 ZX10 and blathered on about some horsesh!t and then wandered off....where i bought my CBR was a totaly different story...so they got my 11000 il just never understand the downright stupidity of some dealers...now again legend harley waaay different than my first go around with a harley dealer...cityxslicker went out of his way to do whatever he could to help me.....u can teach someone to sell bikes...u cant teach them to be a decent human being....ask ur harley dealer if they wouldnt mind having ur buell take up a lift for three weeks and if they have a guy that might take ur wheels to the powdercoater one at a time on his own time for free..see if their buell sales guy will call u every time they get the nifty freebies for demo ride so u get one first....if they do then thats a good buell/harley dealer ...thanx slicker...again ur alright for a guy that sells harleys for a living : D . LEGEND HARLEY< SILVERDALE WA go see em.

As far as any comments about dealers in general, notice I said "support". That implies active commitment. It's what we have here.

Just blushing at the compliment. Thanks Hatchet, You know you need to sneak out of your daily grind and come for a sport bike ride with us some time. BTW the Hooter girls will be back this week, so I have to go get some serious MUD to make them work hard ;) I think it comes from riding the bikes and being excited about them. Not many dealers have someone in house RIDING the buells, I bet that if you look at the good Buell dealers, there is at least one enthusiast on staff. Now if they cant manage to get service done properly... I am seeing that there might be an opportunity for me to get certified to work and wrench on the new gen Buells. Would take me off line for a year or so.... but I have a feeling there will be a demand for it.

On the other side of the coin, I dont know how many times I have had a customer try and get me to diagnose their bike problem over the phone. (esp since I work sales) If it makes you feel any better, I have been down for a week waiting for a new tire because someone "before" me took the last Pirelli Scorp before the next shipment came in. : |

theres two sides to that coin...i know having worked at car dealerships and body shops most of my life....no service dept employee thats is just a writer wants to look at ur sh1t and make a bad diagnosis then have u come back and say ..well the service guy said...as the mechanic rolls his eyes......but if u have good service people they should know a thing or two about bikes and be able to make a half assed diag...basicaly ur screwed if u do and screwed if u dont....at a body shop if u have a scratch or a broken out window they will most likey spare a guy to fix u up if its a quiky...same goes for any good service dept...if they can spare a guy for a few minutes well then get on it and get back to work.....again it will prob come back and bite u in the ass though...well last week ur tech said it was this and now u want 400 $$$$ to fix it that bullsh!t....as good as legend harley is im betting if i showed up on sat and asked someone to "just come look for a minute" im bettin id get the ...u need an appt....if i showed on a wed morning they would prob spare someone just for a sec and id still get the same answer....sometimes u get lucky and the tech will go over a few things with u...but thats kind of the luck of the draw.

Jeez, you guys are bitching 'cause the bike won't be out for a couple of months. If Buell had kept it a secret until they were about to release it, you would have bitched 'cause they gave no advance notice. It's coming before next riding season. I've seen the bike; if it runs as good as it looks, it's going to kick ass.
Good things come to those who wait.
