So I'm looking to get a new exhaust can for my 04 xb12s. I go to southern tier harley here in binghamton and they only sell jardine. They won't install anything that you bring in either. So here it goes..... First off I'm looking to have it installed. This is my busy time and with all the overtime at work I don't want to wast a day working on it when I could be on it. Second does anyone know a place within a 100-150 radius that could install a drummer or something other then a jardine and a race ecm? I could ride there in the am and ride home that night. I understand to be aprox a 2 hr job at the shop. Oh yeah, the guys at southern tier have only done 3 and they also said the jardine doesn't need to be repacked. I thought they did? I guess if you'd read this far you won't mind another question. So if I get a can that does not use the servo will my check engine light be on or will that reset with the TPS? Thanks for the input, all is needed and appreciated. (Message edited by dick8008 on August 06, 2007) |

If you get a Drummer, and can spare less than 30 minutes, you're gold. No need for a TPS reset, no need for a Race ECM either. Pull off the old muffler, slip on the Drummer, ride at or around 3500rpm for a minute or three, and you're set. |

Since you have a 12, you will have the engine light on all the time if you remove the muffler servo. You don't want to have the servo attached to the Drummer, so you can just " hide " it someplace on the bike where it can "pretend" that it is working. That way the light won't go on. Or you can remove the servo motor, a lot neater, and use a "servo" emulator , available from one of our fine sponsors, American Sport Bike. Or, you could add the Buell Race ECM and K+N air filter, which will give you a bit more power, smooth the torque curve, but will require the TPS to be reset. The race ECM does not turn on the engine light when the servo is disconnected because there is no servo in the Buell race muffler,( now out of production). This is the system I use, and I really like it alot. I also have an open air box and have removed the snorkle. Maybe Glitch can swap out a muffler in 30 minutes, but an hour or two the first time you do it is more like it. There are good instructions on the Drummer Site. Jacking the muffler up at the jack points makes reattaching the muffler straps a lot easier. Removing the idler wheel is not necessary. Maybe this would be a good time to order the shop manual and start to bond with your motorbike. Sorry, I do not know a good mechanic in your area. Perhaps Saintly could help. Hope that is not too confusing.

Dick, I'm up in Ithaca and concur with these other guys that the Drummer is a super easy install. I just got a screw job from Southern Tier on my XB. If it weren't for Gaye I'd probably have made the newspapers..... Know anyone in the vicinity looking for a ride? http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 297574.html?1186358569 |

very easy install, less than 30 min as Glitch stated. Bunch of us here in Hudson Valley would help out if ya can get here with the parts. Race ecm not needed but if you do go that route i can reset tps for you as well. As always no charge on anything. (Message edited by hammer71 on August 07, 2007) |

Wow I wasn't expecting so much input in this little time! Hammer71 thanks for the offer. I'll let ya know if I go that route. I may wait for a rainy day, but most likely winter day and swap it out myself. Rokoneer, The only person I really have a problem with at STHD is the dumb ass kid in the parts dept. He's a moron. Doesn't even look up parts in a current book. He uses one at least 3 years or so older. To make it worse he doesn't know that the x1 and xb are different bikes! I've ordered parts there and have gotten completely wrong stuff. Then they give me attitude! Brian in sales is really good. Knows a lot about buells and doesn't treat you like most others do when you mention them. G Jon, Thanks for the input. I may be making a purchase from american sportbike. . Thanks all!! |

Dick, I'm in Elmira and have the software and cable to do the TPS reset.(for a small fee) Putting on a new muffler is a piece of cake. Let me know if you need a hand it can all be done in under an hour. |

Hey, I'm in Corning and got my Uly from STHD. Rokoneer, I gotta here what they screwed up for you. Busterx, I might have to take you up on the TPS sometime, I don't really have faith that the gang in Binghamton have my bike running at it's full potential |

Southern Tier sucks. American Twin in Corning has alot of knowlage about Buells. But of course Harley's come first and buells come well after those. Let me know. Also I know there are getting to be a few Buells around Elmira Corning area and would like to set up some kind of ride or meet. |

Busterx, I'd be up for a ride but really hard with my schedule. I work at the elec company. Yeah, the evil elec & gas company. This is way busy for me this time of year. I'd be better off with a snow mobile but hate hate the cold and love the summer ride. If you ever get a group together, let me know. I may work some magic and be there. |

Hey Dick8008, I have the VDST coming from Al at American Sportbike. If you still need the TPS reset, I am right down the road from you in Endicott and would be glad to help you out. |
