Looking for a healthy debate concerning these two pipes. I was originally planning on using the Spec OPS with an open air box and a Techlusion TFi. This setup will provide a little more power for about $110 less, but I don't know how much a pain tuning will be. I'm also looking at the charts from American Sport Bike, and I'm a little concerned about the small dip in power at 3600rpm that the Drummer doesn't have. The Drummer will cost $110 more (plus shipping) to set it up with the Race ECM, but it should be a bolt on solution with no tuning involved. However, I don't like the idea of having the servo just chillin' doing nothing, and $45 for an emulator seems a bit steep to me. Can you feel the dip in power on the Spec OPS? Is tuning that big of a headache with the TFi? I don't doubt the quality of the Spec OPS one bit, but the Drummer is a nice looking unit, and I think I'd like the sound a little better as well. But $100 is $100, you know? Any thoughts? |

If your actually going to get it tuned you will be paying quite a bit more than the 100.00 difference if your tuner knows what the heck he is doing. |

I would tune it myself - if the TFi is supposed to work like a carb, there is no reason to pay someone dyno time to do it. But if it's going to take me a month or better to get it dialed in right, I'm going to second guess it... I think what I'm looking for a good setup with minimal hassle. I want to be able to just get the thing setup and leave it alone and not have to worry if anything is tuned just right. From what I gather, the Race ECM is a good match for the Drummer and it would be a bolt-on mod without having to mess with anything. (Message edited by xl1200r on January 30, 2007) |

From what your describing I would go with the Drummer then. It is already plug and play as it is setup. The TFI from what I have read can be a PITA to get setup correctly. And that does not even count the stories I have read of people getting bad TFI's only to spend countless hours trying to fix fueling only later to realize it was the damn TFI that was screwed up. Just some more food for thought. |

Turns out the plug and play-ness of either pipe doesn't matter. It appears that Al at American Sport Bike has maps availible for both of these, and that will be the direction I go. Now it's just to decide which muffler I want... |

I started out wanting the Spec OPS pipe, then was leaning towards the Drummer for the nicer finish quality and the lower key sound, but I think I've settled on the Spec OPS for good. Considering the Drummer has a $150 premium, plus the $43 servo emulator, it just didn't make sense seeing as how it made less (though not my much) power. Plus, the Spec OPS just sounds like pure America. |

I also am planning on the special OPs, but I want it over the drummer as I do not have to send mine into them, I can buy it outright, so I have no downtime. Where do I get the Race ECM? Do they still make it or did it stop when they stopped making the Buel racemuffler? |

I just bought the race ECM from the dealership where I bought the bike..their phone is 1-843-554-1847...ask for Walter, in parts dept. super nice guy!! |

I've got a bunch of XB12 race ECMs in stock, see http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17015.html But a race ECM costs you $210, and then $50 (or even $75) at the dealer for a TPS reset ($260 total). You can get your stock ECM remapped for $249 for the key plus $100 for the map ($349 total) by sending me your ECM, and the map is developed specifically for the pipe (and an open airbox). The remap doesn't affect your TPS setting, so it just bolts right in and works. I'm assuming its for an XB12. For the Xb9, we have the maps for 03/04 drummer and special ops, but we need to beta test them first. We'll get to the drummer and special ops for the 05+ XB9s shortly. Al |

I was thinking of getting a Special Ops but I was told that I can just put the pipe on a ride it and have no problem, that the system would re-learn itself. Is this true? I dont really like the idea of having to send my ecm across the us, especially if it is unneeded. |
