Would you please elaborate on the details comprising the DDFI-III fuel injection system?
- Specifically does DDFI-III for the 1125R utilize dual O2 sensors, one for each cylinder?.
- Is a closed-loop and open-loop scheme similar to that employed by DDFI-I/II used along with an AFV? If not, or if not entirely, then what is the new scheme or its improvements?.
- Is a mass airflow sensor employed?.
- What provisions if any are implemented to address WOT at low engine speed issues, an additional CV-type orifice, or other?.
- Will the DDFI-III be able to handle the typical airbox/filter and exhaust tract aftermarket performance modifications/upgrades?

1) Yes, on 1125 2) Yes 3) No 4) Rider hand/brain...but with closed loop FI this is not the issue it is with carbs or mapped. 5) Similar to current |

are they using more "cells" of fuel trim logic in the ecm? i think the previous was like 8 or something. modern dodge vehicles have about 20 cells. allows the ecm to better fine tune the engine |

Actually on #4 response above there is special software that adjusts for this, in short the computer looks at what is going on if you turn the throttle WO at low speed, and delivers the right amount of fuel and spark, etc. On #5, DDFI3 as implemented on ’08 XB’s will react similarly as past models to intake & exhaust modifications. DDFI3 on the 1125 R has additional sensors that should make it better able to respond to such changes, but of course there are no aftermarket parts for it yet. Gemini, DDFI III resolution of the fuel map has been increase in DDFI3 to a 20X16 table, which could be called 320 cells by a marketing person I guess. This can also be further increased by updating the ECM’s firmware. |

Anony - Was the fuel injection software written in house? |

Magneti-Marelli, who also supplies the FI for the Rotax 990 in Aprilias, what was their contribution which warranted placing their logo on the speedometer?

BTW... nice shot of the cluster! I was wondering where the buttons where, and what the security indicator looked like. |

The DDFI software was written by in-in house folks working with support from a Midwestern contract programming house. And MM made the instrument cluster to our specs. It has nothing to do with DDFI. MM is an electronics manufacturer. We had three different companies bid on the cluster and MM got the 1125 business. Delphi did the Blast instrument and NSI the XB. Everyone good gets a chance to bid. |

Thanks for the info Anony. I would have enjoyed talking to whomever did it when I was at homecoming. I'm an EE by education and a programmer by vocation. The mechanical aspects of these bikes impresses me, but aren't really things I understand well. It would have been fun to talk to someone who did something I actually do understand. |

It is kind of cool with the MM logo. Kind of like VDO guages in a car. |

Any way to move the mode and toggle buttons to the handlebars? That would seem like a functional improvement in efficiency of operation. With gloves on it is not always easy to toggle the mode button on the XB. I was just wondering if there is a way to put the buttons on the grip package somewhere? If there was a connector available in the stock package at the gauge it would seem to make an after-market button relocation kit easier. |

Well, maybe it won't happen soon but there is a slight trend in autos to move some controls to the steering wheel and it is a good idea for motorcycles as well. I guess I should have stated that I am thinking across the entire line rather than just the 1125x. On my Uly there is the crossbar on the handlebars and the clutch cable in the way to the mode button. When you finally get your gloved hand in the general area your hand tends to block your view. It is really fun at night. They put a switch on the bars for the heated grips which I would use a LOT less often than the mode switch. I seem to be hitting the mode switch on every ride for one reason or another. Reset, not so much . |

Do as I say not as I do. I really should NEVER be toggling anything when I am riding out there. DRIVE to stay ALIVE. The cagers are not going to see me and the fixed objects will not move out of the way just so I can check my MPG 'on the FLY'! |

what does it take to get the bike in closed loop operation with the new motor and electronics? |
