WAS THIS ENGINE DESIGNED FOR THE 1125R OR HAS IT BEEN USED IN ANY OTHER BIKES? |

And (If I heard it correctly) nothing on/in the engine is over three years old so it's pretty darn modern |

More like...designed and built by Rotax with some unknown amount of specs supplied by Buell. This is a good thing, as Rotax knows motors. Back in 2000, the Rotax V-60 (990cc) propelled a stock Aprilia Mille to a 10.60 / 131 mph quarter mile and with a top speed of 170 mph. I would expect the 1125cc Rotax to be a good bit stronger - expect 10.4 / 135 mph quarter mile. |

Designed by Buell and Rotax. Built by Rotax in Austria, this engine is exclusive to Buell, ie, you won't see it on some other company's bikes. However it uses features Rotax has previously employed, like the oil tank integrated to the crankcase of a dry sump engine like their 4-tec four stroke watercraft engine, the Pneumatic Power Clutch in the the V990 used by Aprilia/CanAm and the finger follower valve actuation in the 800 parallel twin engines Rotax builds for BMW. They even share some parts with their previous motorcycle engines, like the stator, fasteners and I believe the oil filter cartridge. (Message edited by josé_quiñones on August 04, 2007) |

The only other production 72* engine I could find is currently being used on the Wakan Bike.

@Ft_bstrd: do you mean 72 degree v-twin? the Wakan motor is a 45° S&S sportster-style engine! Voxan use a 72° v-twin:

The Wakan engine is actually an S&S unit if I'm not mistaken. The Voxan is a lovely bike spoilt only by French politics. They are all restricted to 100bhp when they leave the factory and derestricting is apparently not that simple to do. Very well made though and styling is gorgeous. |

There's nothing magical about 72 degrees, it just provides more space for the throttle bodies and less vibration than a narrower V. Here's a 70 degree V from 1982 with counterbalancer - half of the Vmax motor.
