Mike, I've got one of the AST jackets, which is basically the top half of the Phantom. I like it very well so far (about 4 months). I wore it to and from homecoming this year with temps ranging from around 70 to well over 90 and it wasn't *too* bad as long as I kept moving. I think that without the liner it vents about as well as it is possible for non-mesh gear to vent (I don't trust mesh on-road). If you get all the vents closed up and their storm flaps velcro'ed shut, it should be completely waterproof as well. From what I've seen and heard, the 1 piece Phantom is more difficult to get in and out of than a 1 piece Aerostitch Roadcrafter. I've got a 1 piece 'stitch and can see how that would be the case. But, my 'stitch cost almost 2x what the Phantom costs. Granted, the 'stitch can be sent back for repairs and alterations, but those aren't cheap. Looks wise,I'd give a nod to the Olympia. Honestly, I think I've only worn my 'stitch a couple of times since I got my Olympia AST jacket, but that may change as the weather cools off a bit and we get more rainy mornings. I'm pretty sure the BMW dealer over on Cobb Parkway has them in stock - go check one out for yourself and see how you like the fit. |
