I just read the Motorcyclist magazine one-page review of the 1999 M2 Cyclone, and it says that the 4th tie-bolt used by the other Buells was omitted, but optional. ? Is anybody able to elaborate? Was this fourth one added on, to later year M2s? I couldn't find any 'empty' tab to bolt one to, on my 2000 M2. Just wondering what they're talking about... |

There should be an empty tab on the frame and an unused hole on a stock M2's front engine mount for the missing tie-bar. I added the tie-bar on my stock M2 just because the X1 has one, but I didn't notice any difference in the handling. Maybe it helps... but it's not anything to lose sleep about. Here's the tie-bar, but it's on an NRHS mount... your stock M2 mount should have the hole for it.

If I remember correctly (I bought the tie-bar 6 years ago), it cost a little less than $50 for fasteners and spacers from the dealer. I had to go back and look at an X1 on the showroom floor to make sure I got the spacers in the right order; it wasn't in the 1999/2000 service manual for M2's. I don't believe Buell ever added this tie-bar to the M2 on later production models. |

So THAT'S what that hole in the engine mount is for! I wondered about that... Maybe I'll try one of those "Velva Ride" things there, just for the heck of it. A bit more than $50, but: http://www.legendmcs.com/Engine/engine-motor-mount2.html I appreciate your taking the time to answer this, too. (Message edited by jayvee on August 03, 2007) |

Hmmm, I'm 99% sure that tie-bolt is on my M2. I guess the Previous Owner installed it?! |

Gentlemen: This tie-bolt was not on the M2s(early models did not have a place for it before 1999 and there after they did) ... The recall front motor mount for 1997 back had this, so "i" just added a small gusset to mount on my 97S3T ... The 1997 models did not have the bar from the frame to the up side down "A" front bracket either ... BLANK Performance made a bolt on bracket for the early TUBE FRAME models which "i" have one on my 97S3T ... These two things made the TUBE FRAME handle better for the more AGRESSIVE Riders ... Jay, I don't think you need a damping link there. I don't think it would hurt anything, though. Back when I installed the link, I hadn't had the bike that long and was nowhere near it's limits. Maybe I just couldn't tell if it make a difference at the time. |

I agree with Djkaplan but will add that on my 2002 M2 I actually added the extra link and found somewhat more vibration was reaching me and the bars so I removed it. Like he said "I don't think it would hurt anything" and I agree but with my full fairing I wanted the less vibration. |

A change like that you'd only notice in very aggressive cornering. |

lafayette, when you say aggressive, you are refering to riding style, right? |

I saw the vacant hole, saw my friends X1 had one, the more support the better, so i added one when i added the stencil bar. i could notice, steering feel more positive |

Werewulf: "YES !!!" IMHO(old school), the better you can improve the handling the safer your bike will be !!! |
