I have the opportunity to buy a replacement for my recently sold S-2. I can get an S-1 White Lightning or an X-1 Racing Stripe for the same price. Which is the better Hooligan???? Which has more long term value? |

Court is right. The S1Wl was a limited edition run of only one year. If any of the post S2 bikes are going to hold any value the s1 is it!! Plus they have much more personality than the X1s. |

The S1W is neat but don't rule out plane S1's ... some of us prefer the skinny tank look. |

The S1 by all means, at least you can fix it without being tied to a dealer owned scanalyzer[fuel injection calibration thingie] skinny tanx rule! |

There are days when I kick myself for not getting the S1WL instead of my S3T. I had the option and choose the more "practical" bike. I will own a S1WL someday |

you know.....our of curiousity and mostly for fun, let's talk. I'm with Aaron. The FIRST S1 (and don't get me wrong, Stephen Bianchino and I worked over 2 S1WL White Lightnings the first day they were shown to the public and that bike is a REAL hootin' hooligan machine...remind me, I've more dandy tales about it) still MOVES me. The skinny tank and the "if you need it, it's on the bike. If not, don't waste time looking for it" attitude of the PLAIN S-1's just reaches out and grabs me! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooow ! |

The only reason you guys like the skinny tanks is because you run out of gas before you butt does with that plank they call a seat on S1s!!!! hehe |

>>>>>.like the skinny tanks is because you run out of gas before you butt does with that plank they call a seat on S1s Whao.....Dude.....any idea who you are talking to about not being able to ride long distances. In the words (whilst standing behind the old Buell factory with a group including Fran Crance and I just after she rode from San Fran to Louisiana for a Crayfish lunch) of Erik Buell . . . if either one of these two ask you to ride to lunch....ASK WHERE! Tell him Ferris....... |

Court, that was not a slam on any person but rather one towards the S1 seats!! Nobody can tell me they are good for long distance touring!! Touchy today aren't we?? And correct me if I am wrong but didn't your travels involve the use of an S2 not an S1? |

As fas as the S1 seat goes, I remember Erik's comment, If your riding it like it should be ridden you won't have your butt on the seat enough to matter. You either are hanging off or have the front end in the air. dave |

get the race seat for the S1[might have come stock on the WL, not sure], it's good enough to get you to the twisties, wherever they may lie! definitely more comfortable than the stock unit. |

The S1WL has the improved seat on it. I'm not considered to be a small man (cough) and it's good for a couple hours for me. Personally I like the Manta tank on S1's. I like the forward "lunging" look the added mass gives it. By the way, in case you hadn't guessed, I'd go for the S1WL. Unless you consistently spend more than three hours at a time on your bikes its the real deal. If your idea of a good time is riding to a bar three states away (and you live in the mid-west) then I'd have to say the extra cush of the X1 is a definate benifit. bighairyralph |

To me, the S1 has and always will be the greatest Buell. I haven't rode an X1, but I don't have to. The fuel injection, wide tank, wide seat, and silly plastic hanging all over it is a huge detraction. The only plus side to the newer Buells is the oil pump, that extra frame spar, the added stabilizing link, and the improved crank bearings. I say either get a "plain" S1 and Thunderstorm it, or get an S1WL and put a small tank on it. Down with the X1! |

no offense meant to X1 owners, but i've ridden both, and like the White Lightning (much) more, the looks and performance and charisma. and.......if you buy an S1W and yank the tank (the absolutely gorgeous Ice White Pearl Manta Ray work-of-art) for a skinny one, well, a pox on you! (yes, YOU Blake!) Ferris ps to GotBuell: how much $$ do they want? pss to GotBuell: WHY OH WHY OH WHY DID YOU SELL YOUR S2??? |

Kahuna, There nothing wrong with X1's. Some of my best friend ride X-1's. I just like the S-1 a little less than my S-2. I really want an S-1 to compliment my S-2 one in the colors that PPIA has would be prefered. I found one once. However, my wife carefully explained to me that only one motorcycle at a time was the house policy. Arvel |

S2No1, Ya, my wife said that to me once... 98 S1W(complete with both tanks, three tails and a host of other goodies), 96 S2T(perfection is subtle art), 68 XLCH now. KevynS12T |

Arvel: I've got the no miss tactic to solve your wife's one bike only edict. Tell her you want to take flight lessons and buy an airplane. She will freak. Then you offer, "or... I was thinking of getting another bike to play around with." Works every time. |

The plastic on the X1 is easily removed. I really like the X1. Just like the S1 a little better. WTF!!!! I'm breaking out in some kind of rash... sonofabitch, looks like chicken pox. |
