It's pretty obvious the pod idea was stolen from the Scott Flying Squirrel 3 cylinder prototype w/ sidcar...

I thought those were just scoops, with the radiator hidden back under the tail

quote:

The radiator lies almost horizontally, with two large forward-facing scoops protruding forward from what normally would be the fuel tank, funneling air into a plenum chamber above the radiator. A fan under the radiator pulls air through it, down and rearward, away from the rider and passenger. What began as a styling imperative offered inherent advantages. The air intake is mounted well above ground level, preventing debris from being sucked into the radiator. Because the airflow is channeled and controlled, a smaller radiator can be used with greater efficiency. And almost as important at the time, the "invisible" radiator kept Willie G. and his stylists happy.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up the fake scoops on the Yamaha V-Max yet.

Would you trade for the fake part too?
They wouldn't be very useful.

I'm still in line for the first one at my Dealer, but there is NO WAY I will drive it with Princess Leia's scoops on it, don't give a crap about about how functional they are.

Function does not have to be ugly. Fat chicks can give you the same service (functionality) as a sexy babe. I vote no fat chicks.

My apologies to fat chicks everywhere.

You could always just remove the radiators and use it strictly as a bar-hopper!

But seriously, I don't see anyone having what you want on the market before the bikes hit the streets.

Especially when the parts are critical to operation, not like passenger pegs etc. which are easily deleted.

Good, leave it for someone that will appreciate the bike for what a wonderful machine it will be.... C ya.

About 75% (higher on non-Buell sites) of the comments I have read have reacted negatively to the appearance of the scoops.

Like it or not, aesthetics play a factor or in motorcycle purchases. A raindrop is the most aerodynamically correct shape, but you don't see a large volume of raindrop-shaped motorcycle sales.

Buell made a styling decision with the scoops and it looks like they are going to live with it. I have no doubt that Buell will sell many 1125R's. IMO sales would be higher with more attractive radiator covers.

Personally I don't care for the looks of the scoops. Until I go for a test ride, I won't know if that is enough to keep me for buying one.

I saw a picture of a fat chick once, saw her is person & you guessed it...still fat

What I can't get over is all the pre-judging going on. Everyone who's seen the bike in person says it's dead sexy. How about saving some bandwidth, and holding judgement on the scoops until the damn thing actually hits the showroom?

Jose - awesome article, great find. You can't help but wonder "what if"...but it also explains the Revo's Porsche bloodlines. Great stuff.

Function does not have to be ugly.

Who said it did?
Ugly, like sexy, is a subjective thing.

Fat chicks can give you the same service (functionality) as a sexy babe.

Neither will give very good service (functionality) if you start ripping functional parts off.

Oh, and personally I thought Princess Leia was kinda sexy. But maybe that's just me being subjective.

Functionally speaking, fat chicks often give WAY BETTER service than the skinny ones...

I saw the 1125R at Road America. It's a good looking motorcycle. Much more attractive than the KTM Super Duke (which looks like a box of used razor blades to me).
If you haven't seen one yet, don't badmouth it.

You know what?
That really is ugly.
Buell really needs to get rid of them.
The government required "safety" stickers that is.

On the other hand, that one might be useful if it says something like;
WARNING: Removing these scoops might look sexy but will severely inhibit vehicle performance!

G.

they are not bad in person.

I like them, and oh, I also liked the original airbox on the buells too...now to add a second one to my m2...rex

neat things are going on out there now. I was wearing a buell shirt the other day, and went in to the drug store to pick up an rx, and the pharmacist, said, you have a buell., cool.....

look at the pic closely....

it is from behind the scoop, not directly from the side...so it looks worse than it really is

you can tell the angle of the pic taken by looking at the side case of the motor

Great observation...I couldn't agree more. And the KTM is the 2007 Overall Bike of the Year. They understand a little something about function above form over there.}
