Hey guys. I am pretty sure I am going to be buying a '08 Uly as soon as they show up and wanted to know what other options I have as far as luggage. From what I gather, you need to order mounts through the dealership, so what is out there if I want to bypass that route. Pics of your setups would be great. I kinda have my eye on the HB Gobi system. Anyone have a pic of that on a Uly and what mounts are used? Not that I don't like the factory stuff, but maybe looking for something with some better latches. Thanks |

Everyone I know with Happy Trails (Uly and Beemer owners) love them. Chadley has the Pelicans on his and swears by them. Guess it depends on whether you like top or side load. |

W, Here is a thread I started a few weeks back. I think this would be the best choice for all involved but so far do not have enough expressed interest to get Twisted Throttle to proceed. The racks would work for existing factory luggage as well as a host of other options and when you don't want to ride with the bags on, the racks come off in seconds. Caribou, not Pelican. Sorry, Chad. |

I might as well toss in a vote for the stock Buell cases: -voluminous -brackets distribute the load rather well --my brackets were a PITA to install -rounded edges = passenger comfort --wrt smaller passengers -broken latches = operator error -durable --it's not easy to tell that my bike slid across 3 lanes of asphalt on my side case |

Get in touch with 2 wheel touring and add a pair of storm cases from cases4less.com |

Does the Gobi's use the same racks as the Journeys (factory) bags by chance. I am just wondering if the dealer would just sell me the mounts since I don't seem to see them for sale anywhere? Thanks for the input so far. |

You can also check with twistedthrottle.com they sell a set of racks from Germany, can't remember the name. They let you use Givi bags. I do not believe you can buy the factory racks separate. It seemed to be a major ordeal for me to just buy the top case and rack separate. The owner of my dealership had to call Buell and explain I had wrecked and damaged the old bag. |

Mark, don't give up on that idea. The SW-MOTECH quick release brackets would be fantastic to have on the Uly. Just need a few more folks to step up and we could get this ball rolling. |

Firstbatch, I'm not giving up but I'm afraid it is a chicken and egg thing. I believe that if the brackets were available nearly everyone would buy them as they do all the same things that the factory ones do plus open up options to other luggage from Givi and the like as well. The real kicker for me is that you can take the brackets off in a snap when not using the luggage. |

If you want to get a set of racks and mount your own choice of cases on them, Touratech makes and sells them - separate from their cases. P/N 051-0120. I don't know if anyone has an experience using these things as a starting point and I haven't seen them in person yet, so I don't know how much of a PITA they are to mount on the bike or how easy it might be to mount the cases to them. |

another question for you that own the Buell luggage. It is showing a width of 30cm or 11.8". That sounds narrow. |

Roughly 11.5" x 19.5" x 12" for the Buell cases |

Yep, I agree the quick connect system from Motech is a great system and would preserve the lines of the Uly when you wnat to ride her naked |

Jason, So you are saying that they are 19.5" wide?? or 12inches wide as defined as thickness of the case? I thought they were about 19.5" long and 12 tall and 12" width or thickness but I wanted to confirm. |

Depending on what you are trying to stuff in there, they are 19.5" long x 11.5" wide x 12" tall. The specs say 42 liters? But, I don't know about that. It all leaks out, and I can't really close the lid fast enough. It's better to leave the beer in the bottles, and just bring less of it. |

I just saw that twistedthrottle.com is selling Givi racks and bags for the Uly. Side bags are around $450, rack around $180 and optional top case rack. I use a Givi on my BMW and love it. |

FYI ---- From: Jesse Luggage Systems Sent: Monday, July 30, 2007 2:38 PM To: Ken Kyler Subject: RE: Safari Bags for a Buell Ulysses? Ken - the Buell is in the plan, but I'm not sure when Al will get to it. He's got a couple of big projects he is finalizing, so I think this fall we will actually try to get one in the shop and fit luggage to it. Julie Jesse Luggage Systems} ---- I really like those bags and since my bike hasn't shown up yet, I'll wait. |

I wonder is there rear of the Uly really strong enough to support a metal luggage system? I saw in the instructions where they had a few disclaimer for the rear cracking if done wrong. I'll have to dig out the instructions and see what it was all about again. I guess I get a bit skittish with the light weight tail sections that everyone uses now. I like those Jeese systems also. |

That would be another good option if Jesse would make mounts for their bags. The new Quick-Click system is real clean. Check it out http://www.jesseluggage.com/quick.html |

Gtmg, Its the same Fehling rack. I pre-placed my order several weeks ago when he was placing order to Germany. Ian @ two wheels is very quick to respond to e-mails. I do not know if he or Twisted Throttle are stocking racks. |

Does anyone know how much the Hepco bags weigh vs the aluminum bags? I think overpacking may be the issue. |

So, are the Hepco cases available, but the mount for the Uly aren't unless you buy them from Buell? I looked at the Twisted Throttle site and they list the cases and lots of mounts for different bikes, but no Uly. So, if you want the Hepco bags you have to buy them from the dealer to get the mounts? |

Dynasport, This is why I would like to see us get a couple of dozen folks to commit to the Twisted Throttle to get the quick release mounts built. The mounts would support Givi, Hepco, and Krauser bags and come off when not in use. The Buell bags by Hepco are the Journey bags with a Buell logo on them. |

So, where do you stand as of now in getting enough people together to have them made for the Uly??? I would commit, but seeing as I still don't have a ULY yet, my vote really wouldn't count. BTW, if those mounts are so universal, can I assume that the Hepco mount would fit both the Journey and the Gobi bags? |

Heck, I don't even own a Uly yet, but I'd be willing to invest ahead of time if it'll get them (the removable brackets) produced. I love the naked lines too much to ride around with those ugly brackets when the luggage is not installed. Tipsy |
