2000 X1 Stripe Ed. Force Intake, Race ECM, Pro Series Exhaust. Otherwise it's stock as far as I know. 5th gear pulls Dynojet, SAE corrected 20W-50 Mobil 1 Synth 93 Octane 1st pull(not shown)...still hot right off the street. 89hp/75tq. 2nd pull...removed air filter(slightly dirty looking) 95hp/81tq 3rd pull...25 minute cool down. 98hp/83tq 4th pull...back to back with 3rd pull, no change. 96hp/82tq So it appears my air filter was a huge restriction. But does it look like mine is making more power than it should for the mods? Think there are some other mods I'm missing(cams?)? Just curious what you guys think. I want another 10 or so hp at the wheel. I am actually looking for a newer bigger 49mm TB and intake. I am considering a different exhaust for weight loss and better flow(anyone here running a straight pipe?). The pro series is straight thru but chambered and I think a tru straight thru design might gain a few horses. I'm also looking for a Power Commander to tweak the A/F ratio. Any input you guys can give me would be appreciated. This is my first bike at the age of 28. I've had it since November 06. Thanks

Seems like a very friendly Dyno. All the ones I have seen with those mods. have been in the mid eighties, but they where all fourth gear pulls. Sounds like your having fun and that's what its all about.Becareful not to do so much you lose your streetability. A monster is not that much fun to ride on a daily basis.....Charlie |

first off, as mentioned above, industry standard is 4th gear pulls... not 5th... 5th will read higher.... second, why did he take the air cleaner off? are u gonna ride the bike without the air cleaner? the guy probably aired up the rear tire high, and took his weight off the bike while making the pull......... sounds like he just wanted to give you high numbers so you will be happier.... i've put many MANY hours in on the dyno, (probably more than 95 percent of people here) my thought is for you to find a diff dyno tester. then the next step for performance is 1250 kit and or headwork |

I wouldn't do too much more airflow work without tweaking the EFI a bit, either with a PowerCommander or DirectLink. Your a/f looks like it's leaning out a bit at 4500/5000 rpm. |

Charlie. I'm planning to keep it streetable. But I'm used to monsters anyway. My past 2 cars have been cammed, supercharged, and loud and obnoxious. The dyno was a dynojet model...so I trust it. But the 5th gear efficiency may have gained me a few extra ponies. But if you're saying mid 80's...Its doubtful fifth gained me 14hp...3-4hp maybe. Phat, I took the filter off because it was a little dirty from the crankcase ventilation. I drove home with it off to see if I could tell the diff. But no, its not driven with it off...but I do plan to weld a better intake up or use a better filter. I'm also considering a newer intake and 49mm TB. His weight was on the wheel during the dyno. And there is no industry standard for gear for dyno pulls except being in a 1:1 gear. We've always done 5-speed and 6-speed cars in 4th because its usually 1:1 ratio. Our Buells have a 1:1 5th gear and technically should be dynoed in 5th...especially considering 5th is very well used in a Buell at any kind of speed. regardless, I will continue to dyno in the same gear for before/after comparison sake. And I am considering the 1250 kit. What would a 1250 kit alone gain me since the cylinder are supposedly so much straighter and the piston are lighter? Apparently the bike is breathing well at redline which seems to make me think that its not running out of breath just yet. Rat, I am looking for a PC now...any idea where they are still available for this model? Thanks guys. |

Wicked - try drag specialties, or right from Dynojet. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll grab a part number for ya |

I just plotted my dyno versus speed instead of rpm...looks like the 4th dyno pull was in 4th gear instead of 5th...only 3 peak hp difference. So, in 4th gear on a hot bike with no airfilter in place, 95hp. |

See my response in the other thread you started ... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/296285.html?1185906780 ... seems like a VERY friendly dyno .. |

in the jap bike industry it is common to use a gear (generaly 5th gear) that is 1:1, in the harley industry, rule of thumb is 4th gear testing the reason for this is to take into acct trans loss since 5th gear is a direct lock up the loss is alot less than in 4th.... but i'll stop talking now, i've only been to dynojet training in las vegas, and on a slow day make 3-5 dyno pulls.... |

Lol. 1:1 gears have the best efficiency because the pressure angles are better than those of lower and higher ratios. I may not have had dyno training(at least not dynojet)...but I have had mechanical engineering school. We learn the theory of interial dynos on the first day of the first semester. And last I checked, my 4th gear(and all my gears) were locked up...thats how a clutch works. Thank you to everyone who has given a friendly response and not started their response with how they are dyno experts. FWIW, I only ran 12.7 at 110 on a warm humid night. I was smacking the rev limiter(had ear plugs in and engine sounds different) in every gear and couldn't open the throttle until I hit second. So I don't really put any stock in those numbers. |

Wicked - your 1/4 mile speed is what you can put stock in though .. I ran a 12.30 @ 113 mph - also look at your 60' time .. I still had a crappy 2 second 60' time with that run .. running in similar conditions as you did (best run was my last run .. go figure - when the bike is already super hot ) - can you tell I babied it at the tree ? But don't dismiss that 1/4 mile mph .. more telling than you think - (I'm no expert but have been dealing with several who pretty much are since the work was done on my S1 - and it's been explained to me but I'm not going to try to repeat it .. ) |

Tattood, what were your mods with that et/mph? Trust me, I understand what you're saying. But 110mph only works out to 65whp or so with a weight of 630lbs. So I honestly can't believe that. My other friends that were there that night were also running about 10-15 mph slower than their bikes advertised 1/4 mph. One of our guys with a modded and geared Honda VTR1000 ran 11.2 at 116mph...and he's a very experienced rider. My point is I dont think my mpg that night...my first time to the strip on a bike...is really representative of the actual performance of the bike in the hands of a better rider. Thanks. |

My mods were as stated in my thread with the dyno .. And like you - am a rookie at the strip with a bike ... my 12.3 was only my 2nd time running at the track ... even with an experienced rider aboard - the top speed isn't going to change that much .. the only thing that will change is how fast you get to it really ... You will seldom see the advertised 1/4 mile time - I don't think the advertised numbers are from someone actually running it -- it's more than likely a calculated speed based on hp/tq/weight ..etc... Stay tuned - going for my 3rd time tonight .. will let you know how it goes with more seat time ... I started with a 12.8 when I first ran it (but still at 112 mph) dropped to a 12.30 @ 113 by the 2nd time ... I'd like to see if I can't drop to a 12 flat tonight ... there is still alot to be desired with my launch ... (too worried about flipping it over on myself) |

OK ... updated 1/4 mile times .. 11.948 @ 115.35 mph Still had nearly a 2 second 60' ... so there is still room for improvement ... I suspect this bike can do an 11.5-11.7 as it sits .. but next time out (2 weeks from now) I will have a better exhaust and the wheelie bars, strut and straps ... shooting to ultimately break into high 10's ... My goal tonight was to at least run a 12 flat - not even to break into 11's .. which I did .. (Message edited by tattoodnscrewd on August 03, 2007) |

TNS.Hitting the rev-limiter will actually slow you down. Best improvement to ET's will be reaction time and 60 foot times. Strapping front will also help.Good luck. Terry and I went down from shop and watched the weds night drags this week as we had a couple of friends running their Big Twins, nice bikes, both low 12's.No Buells there this time. Made me want to take out my Ford Diesel with the tuner turned all the way up. We may get to help out with the Destroyer from Vallejo as our landlord, Mike, may be riding it for them. That should be a hoot. |
